Prior to this post I had been a pretty happy customer of Avons. My last set I went through had to be replaced with new to me Ultra 3D series tires. Sposed to be better etc. I have had 3 sets throughout the years.
I will no longer.
With less than 500 miles on the front, I began to feel an oscillation in the front end. Badly. Low speeds up until about 40ish then it would smooth out. Felt like an out of balance tire, or a bad washboard road surface. First time I felt it that is what I thought it was....bad road etc. Then the next ride it was definitely NOT the road. I removed the tire and inspected. Thinking perhaps my axle was not torqued or anything not right.
All was good on inspection. Put it back together and she was smooth as normal. It was back to normal.
The next ride felt fine. The morning after what felt like a normal ride, I found my rear tire flat. Bummer. I started looking for a nail etc. Only to find that my tire was about to come apart. The steel belts had cut through the carcass in 2 spots and it was losing air out of there.
This could have turned out very badly if I had been at speed and this thing continued to come apart. It happened rather quickly, and with no notice. I had just done a once over inspection and topped off my air pressure in the previous days.
Bad news here for Avon.
