big problems with spinn

Have some problems with spinn.

Gen1 , me 175lbs ,166rwp
Last year i went constant between 9.90 and 10.1 shortbike and 16/41 and 22-25 PSI in shinko ,and passed the traps in 4th just hitting the limiter.

First runs this weekend with the folowing mods:
I stretched 4" (124 links on chain)and changed to a Gen2 shock ,gearing changed to 17/43 to have less friction on sprocket and now i have only spinn in 1st and 2 gear. Best with a start at 4000 was a 10.8 with teribble spinn.
Last run i started also 4000 but in second gear and got a 10.32 without spinn.
Sorry ,it was a "fun-event" and they had no 60ft times (didnt know that before)but they must be terrible with the spinn.

Is the Gen2 shock to hard (strong) for my weight ? Set the dumping all the way open and rebound all clicks closed.
Bike drops maybe an inch or less when i am sitting on.

Do not turn your compression and/or rebound adjustments all the way to the end of its adjustment range. They can act very funny. I would stay 3 clicks from full soft on rebound and prolly 1/2way to no more than 3 clicks from full hard on compression. Have you put a tape measure to your rear sag? I normally set mine around 1"-1.25". Was the track well prepped? Did others have problems with spinning? Whats your weight?

Compression is set one click from all soft
Rebound one click from all the way closed
(Screws are not turned all the way ,they hit the clicks)
Soft on damping and slow rebound.

Track was not prepped at all and tire was first a finished Shinko ,later i tried a Pilot Power with 22PSI but same bad results.
A zx12 hit a 9.9 ,but he had a good shinko.
My buddy hit a 10.3 on a Busa without spinn ,but he was not faster than me starting in second gear.
May also have been the track.

I will switch back to my Gen1 shock and try again.

I think i am to leightweight for the GEN2 shock.

no the gen2 shock is not your problem, in all honesty you prob go with a higher rate spring being that youre stretched.

on your pilot power dont do a big burnout.

are you sure youre not bottoming out the shock? if you are that will make you spin.

How much do you weigh?
I would go 3 clicks from full soft on the comp and about 1/2way on the rebound as a start. It is possible to be too soft on the comp and it never plant the tire.
A badly prepped track may be your biggest problem. Track prep becomes more of an issues when you stretch the bike.

I disagree with a lot of the information posted. At 4" stretch and 175#, you can probably get away with stock spring and shock from GenII.

Start full hard on rebound and right in the middle for compression. Next, put a zip tie on the steel shaft of the shock, and note were it travels after taking a "good" pass. Adjust spring preload so that you still have a minimum 1 cm of travel on the shock. You want the shock to be working, but not to bottom out and shock the chassis. If you have more than 1 cm exposes, loosen the preload of the spring to get more work out of the shock. Once your preload is correct, then you can go back to the compression damping and fine tune. Rebound will always be full hard.

Thanks draco
thats the way i was. rebound full hard
compression i was on full soft , will change this.

didnt think on the zip tie (do it like this on the fork for road travel to check)

As i have also mounted lowering links ,do you think (i feel like this) that the shock is to strong and dont compress "at all" with my weight ?
I will check with the zip tie and report.

a poorly prepped track will frustrate you, and make you think the bike is really off....but you will probably just need to soften up the rear a little. by stretching the bike you remove weight from the rear tire, so you want to let the rear sit a little by softening up the preload.

preload is softened out.
with me sitting on bike it "goes down" maybe 1" but not more.
Got my new Shinko Hook up today and try with this again.

Hard to reach to put the zip tie on rear shock:banghead:

i have other lowering links and can lower it another inch. (only for track ,on road its lowered just 1 1/2")
will this have a big influence on the shock ? (stretched 4")
I only have a single hump ,so i will never ride with passenger.

Thanks again for help and comments :beerchug:
