Bike of the Year?

Ok guys, I have a wise *** friend that took a little shot about his Yamaha R6 lawnmower winning Bike of the Year in Sport Rider. I need some material to fire back. I found some stuff in Cycle World where the busa won superbike of the year and the R6 won street bike of the year. I can milk this a little in that his 600 won the street bike and they don't consider it a superbike. This is still a weak return salvo.

Does anyone have some factual information from other magazines which show the busa winning different awards? Bike of the year would be great. I'd like to return fire with fact and I would just like to know,
period. Any articles that trash the R6 would be great but I'd bet they are hard to find. (I've driven it and it is a great bike but we won't tell him that).

If you can't throw any factual information at me, please take your best shot! I'm still laughing at some of the shots taken on this board! You can have some fun with this one without worrying about offending anyone but a R6 lawnmower driver.

Thanks.

You could always point out that they had to ride the Streets of Willow to let the R6 come out on top. That's a much shorter, tighter track that really favors smaller, lighter bikes. Maybe your friend really does think his R6 is better than an R1, which it beat in the Sport Rider track test. But then maybe he knows better, too.

You might challenge him to a nice little 500 mile ride some Saturday against your Busa and see what happens.

Try this analogy. The R6 is like Formula 1 race car and the Busa is like a fully equipped Jaguar convertible. However, this Jag can beat the F1 at everything but fast u-turns.

You are all wrong it is the ZX12R, Matchbox's Wannabe Bike of the Year.

Those Kawpukes are goining to be so pissed, our Busa's are the "King of the Road" with a full year of aftermarket behind us.

Do you think leather tassles are too much for the ZX12, cause that is all they are going to see this comming year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sport Rider December issue is what he is referencing. Motorcyclist gave the Busa the MOTY honors.
The BUSA lost primarily due to chasis and handling. They also took a shot at engine smoothness and brakes.
All opinions from the magazine guys, here are some facts:
Here was the field of bikes--BUSA, ZX9R, YZF-R1, CBR600F4, and Rsick oops 6.
QUARTER MILE
1.Busa----9.97 @ 144.80 mph
2.ZX9R----9.99 @ 136.80 mph
3.R1------10.22@ 140.15 mph
4.CBR600--10.88@ 125.57 mph
5.R6------10.68@ 128.17 mph LAST!
The magazine even said that the BUSA they tested lived a hard life--it was test bike with many miles. Still made 144.80 MPH!

TOP SPEED
1. Guess?--189.6 MPH
Last R6---157.3 MPH

ROLL-ON 60mph-80mph
1.ZX9R--2.98 sec.
2.R1----3.13 sec.
3.Busa--3.28 sec.
4.R6----4.61 sec. Next to last
Last CBR-4.78 sec.
I CLAIM ERROR IN THIS ONE-Octobers Motorcyclist has the Busa at 2.70 SEC. and the ZX9 at 2.98 MAKING THE BUSA QUICKER. I have personally beat a ZX9 in roll ons at every speed practically.

ROLL-ON 80mph-100mph
1.R1----3.13 sec.
2.BUSA- 3.47 sec. ERROR again 2.89 sec same source as above(they list ZX9R at 3.52 sec)
3.ZX9R--3.52 sec.
4.CBR---4.71 sec.
Last R6-4.78 sec.

Streets of Willow lap times
1. R6--1:13.89
2.R1---1:14.69
3.ZX9R-1:14.71
4.CBR--1:15.89
Last-Busa 1:16.03

Seems to me facts point to Busa unless we are rating on track racing. Does your friend ride out of his driveway onto a track.

I suggest you go for a ride and lose him so he doesn't even see tail lights.

Bob
