Bimetal Thermostats (Electric Vests)
I have a Widder Vest with a bimetal thermostat. I just wanted to share the tip that if you put the thermostat in your pocket, it (the thermostat) will cycle off more frequently and for longer periods of time (BAD THING: no heat). This is because your pocket keeps the thermostat warm! But your torso will be freezing since your chest is being blown on by cold air while there's no heat coming from the Widder due to the thermostat cycling off.
To solve this problem I hang the thermostat outside the jacket and keep it exposed in the cold winter air. It seems to make the thermostat cycle off less frequently - if at all. I am working on some kind of attachment to the bike to make this permanent.
Has anyone had similar experiences with bimetal thermostats?
