ive just changed my oil in my 08. i used motul 5w40 double ester oil. i think im going to do an oil analysis b4 i change again. been reading and it would be kinda nice to know about how many miles till the oil is wearing out. seems silly, but it could save alot of money. and the information could be great for the peoples here. just think if everyone sent in their oil at 3k miles and listed it here with brand and riding style, we could put the ole oil arguement to rest. i dunno.

its $25 bucks for the O.A. and 10 for the tbn number. the total base number will tell you how much additive is left to keep fighting acid.

Blackstone Labs

check it out and tell me what ya think. if i do it i will definately post all information i get and everything i learn along the way.

if anybody else has been down this road please enlighten me on your results

I've used them a few times. Good results for sure. I proved that (in my mind) that you can go every other oil change without changing the filter.

I'm curious, you are willing to go through all this info gathering on oil and pay for it to boot, which is fine. However, why would you choose 5W40 when the recommended oil is 10W40 from Suzuki? Is there an advantage?
I don't even see it on the chart in the manual as a possible substitute.

if i could have purchased 4 liters of 0w20 oil at a reasonable price i would have ran it. however i like the fact that motul is a true full synthetic. its uses a double ester as a base. so it should be really really good oil. time will tell.

yes im willing to pay for oil analysis on my bike and the oil i run. its pretty cheap and could keep me from having to change my oil as frequently. i was hoping to get a few other members that already have or are willing to get the tests done on their bike. or i would be willing to use my bike as a guinea pig, but the costs will mount and id have to ask for donations to put all the data and oil analysis together. using one bike would probably create the best comparison.

tell ya what if people want to help put a list of oils together that are most commonly used ill figure up the cost. all the data handling and work i can do no problem. i would just have to have some help for the cost of oils and analysis. this could prove to be a very very useful thread. however other bikes could prove to be very useful as the miles will have to mount to complete a very useful database.

i dunno, just a crazy idea.

what brand and weight of oil were you running?

the pic is kinda blurry to read the small print. it looks like it said the metal content was slightly elevated, but it could be just the hayabusa engine? what year is your bike?

Seems like overkill to me. It's your money. I'm gonna go out on a limb and trust Suzuki and it's engine design team and use their recommendations.
Been using oem filters, Motul 10W40 semi-synth for years in 5 different suzukis, all GSX-R line, with no worries or engine/transmission problems.
Good luck with your research!

I use Blackstone labs also. Would love to see an analysis on the Motul, what that would tell us for a 5W40 is how good their additive package is to prevent sheer and the oil to stay in grade. It's about how much they pay for the goodies they put in there.

A Busa taken care of should do 100,000 miles on oil from Wallys, but I use an expensive 5W40 as well. I have a very good reason for that. The reason is because I can. Also, I like the small 2 to 3 hp bonus.

if you goto brocks website, he sells 0w00 weight oil. made by allysin. supposedly its great stuff, but kinda pricey. the only time he doesnt recommend the 0 weight oil is if your a heavy nitrous or turbo user. i paid 49 dollars for 4 liters of motul. exactly what i needed to fill the crankcase and oil filter. i use k&n filter so i dont have to pull plastics do drop the filter. i do however have to drop the oil line to get the filter past the header.

i would just like to see if by using a premium oil if i can extend my oil changes. as long as my fuel and ppm come back low as well as my tbn i can extend the change. no sense in throwing expensive good oil out the door.

what oil do you use? also could you post up your analysis? did you pay for the tbn number?

I worry enough about the outside of my bike.
Worrying about the inside too would make me daffy!

This is something I'd like to do once.

I run Motul 10W-40 full synthetic. 5K between oil, 10K between filter. Bike is an 06 and now has 76K. It is time for a new test.

My reason was only to check the difference between oil and oil/filter changes. They said they only had a half dozen Busa tests to compare to, and all were low miles.

This is pretty cool.
I'm running Shell Rotella T in my 08
If I remember about this when its time for a change (~2200mi right now) I'll contribute to the collection.

if i can muster enough interest we can get a group rate...will have to talk to cap about it, but the price goes down to $19 when we get 6 or more samples.
