A friend of mine bought a BMC race air filter not knowing he needed to get the bike re-mapped. Because of this he now wants the street version. I told him I'll pay him $50 for it and he agreed.

My question is, can I simply use a Power Commander for it or is there more to it?

Power commander....no problem, just have someone tweek the map a little. If your friend is changing to any BMC, he will see more benefit by having it remapped. Stock Busa filters flow very well. I lost 5 hp by going to a K&N filter and remapping, with a good tuning center doing the work.

I've heard the stock filter actually give the best performance. The only reason he is changing it is because it an '04 and its about time for a change. So as opposed to getting an OEM one, he opted to get the BMC.

stock filter is fine. only reason to go with aftermarket would be to have cleaning ability.
no mapping is needed.

I would think since BMC Race are allowing more airflow that you would want to dyno-tune and re-map for best results.

Why would you need to Dyno tune/ remapp for a filter that wont flow as good as the stock filter? Sounds like a commplete waste of money if your goal is more HP out of an aftermarket filter. AS far as buying a BMC or K&N for the ability to wash and reuse, I can see the logic, but at reducing HP I will stick with stock.

no mapping needed unless you want the extra .0001 hp

But it will save you money in not having to buy air filters over and over.

Yup, that's why he chose the BMC. Now are you saying the race version doesn't require re-mapping?
The race version flows a little better than the street version for the last possible percent of hp....but I've read that it sacrifices filtering ability to do that. And if you plan on keeping your bike for a long time I would lean towards better filtering over a tiny percentage more power that you'll never feel.

Ill sell you my K&N right now..... $50 shipped TYD!

... He may want to do the Marble...

I think everyone that has done ANY breathing MOD should marble the busa.
What if I already did the small airbox mod, sealed my ramair tubes, took off the pair valve, and added a full exhaust, and pc3? Is it too late to go back and do the Marble Mod...I think I qualilfy for "Any breathing MOD"....

Just messin around. Just take the darn Pair Valve off, and throw on some block off plates w/gaskets, if you have done any Breathing mods...(New aftermarket airfilter excluded).
