Boot salvage

OK so I have a pair of trusty old Bates Sport racer boots that I have been riding with for 18 years (bought em at the USGP in 88!) now and they fit like a glove, they are truly one of my prize possessions! Well it appears that I have been getting a bit too frisky of late and seem to have worn through the sole where my toes (size 14) drag. I find myself wanting to add some kind of metal rub strip or something out there to postpone the horror of replacement. Ultimately I think a set of Sidi's might be in the Cards. But in the meantime I can't bear to get rid of these. I can now see why Mike Hailwood used to get Bloody Toes when he raced! I have some really thin Stainless steel plate stock that would work but I am trying to think of how to attach it to the Rubber sole of the boot. I was thinking of trying a Urethane and some small screws??? Anybody got any great ideas?

Small pointy screws... good idea near the feet.

I'd just try Shoegoo.

DON'T Dangle toes... Seriously, gotta keep the balls of your feet on the pegs, that's what they are for, you might be surprised at how much more stable and in control you feel in corners.

Take your Bates to a Cobler though, should be able to get them squared away and good as new... But now broken in of course.

Thats all the further my "bigol" feet will tuck man! I am literally putting my toes on the peg and I am still dragging. And my damn front tire still has .25" chicken strips!

As Rev said, take them to a place that specializes in shoe repair. I know there's a place at home that does amazing work and pretty quickly too
