breaking in your new bike

I have many friends that buy new bikes and always ask me "is the manufactures recommended break in procedure really necessary?"

What do you all think of this opinion?

everything this man says is absolutely true. been breaking them in for years that way. I also assemble my cylinders dry with nothing but a wipe of 30 wt non detergent oil on a napkin. works like a charm.
