Bristol

We just returned from the Bristol race late last evening. We had a good trip but was let down with the action on the track. They resurfaced it and did something to the banking.I'm a race fan and don't watch for the wrecks, but you know you're going to see alot of them at that track. The racing was so clean it was like being at some crappy 1.5 mile track. No one even had to touch anyone in the turns.I haven't  seen any of the shows on Speed yet but will be suprised if most fans aren't let down. Thank God for David Reagen or the race would have been over at 9:30. Bristol was, repeat ,was by far the best track on the circuit. The drivers will probably like it  but the fans won't. They should have called it " The cure for insomnia 500".There i'm done with my rant.

I watched nearly the entire race on TV. I actually liked it better than the "bump and run" racing that they usually have. It definatly was different to see some guys needing to make a green flag pit stop because they were needing gas. I think the new racing surface will make for better racing. Two and three wide at Bristol was pretty cool. The old way.....watching one single file line of cars going around the bottom of the race track got kinda old.

Nah. That title goes to AMA superbike. The same vehicle (GSXR 1K) wins EVERY week, with the occasional swapping of pilots.

My husband watches the races...I'll admit, I've been to a few in my time, but I'm clear that I'm ONLY THERE FOR THE CARNAGE, so if there aren't wrecks, I'm bored.

I walked through the living room and heard they were down to 100 laps left and had only had 5 cautions.  I asked Mike "what happened to the 25+ cautions at Bristol?" and he said that they've revamped the track.  Looks ultra boring now...

Bristol before = most driver hate it; fans love to watch racing there

Bristol now = drivers love it; fans dissappointed with all the clean racing

I think it had alot to do with it being so new that drivers didnt know what to expect so they were extra cautious. You also have to remember that it is down to the wire for those trying to make the chase. Nobody wants to be bouncing off eachother when it is going to cost them a spot in the top 12 so the drivers are being even more cautious. I thought it was a good race. It was a nice change of pace like Justin said. Plus... you DONT want to be the one taking Jr out and causing him to miss his chance for making the chase!

I thought it was a pretty good race. Sure not the usually carnage but a lot more competition. It was great seeing Waltrip fight for camera time, and when he ripped Jeff Gordon's bumper off, it was just hilarious. Though I'd been happier if Harvick finished a but higher.

I think next year the race will be better when Goodyear brings back a softer tire. They had a real hard tire thinking the surface would be real rough, but they said the paving company did a nice job of smoothing it out. You are right though, it was pretty dull. The spring race (except for the last few laps) was pretty dull also.
