Among oher things , you will need impact wrench, for clutch hub nut. Locktite for studs. Make sure the parts all align, before you tighten hub nut. Pay close attention to order of clutch plates. They have a few different thickness, involved.

Pay attention to the oil pump gear alignment before you fire up the impact. If not aligned the gear can crack and you will never know it till too late.

don't for get to soak your plate in oil the night before! Also look at your clutch fluid I have been changing mine about every 1500 miles as soon as it starts to get dark or slightly darker then clear.

You don't need to remove your plates unless you're doing maintenance on them. Don't take them out unless you've got a wear problem. At least one person has fried their plates by not putting them back in correctly. Why risk it?

Don't take out the plates unless you are changing them. Pay close attention to center part during installation. Make sure engagment 'dogs' are aligned, allowing part to slide in. Loctite the studs. Torque on nut is 60ft/lbs if I remember right. The instructions are very thorough, best I've seen. Then go ENJOY the smooth launches. Best mod I've done!

Make sure that you have a torque wrench that will handle up to 110 lb.ft.and some permanent Loctite. Follow directions carefully; they are very complete. Impact wrench helps on removal.

I've ordered the mod, and it should be here by Friday (hopefully installed in time for Sunday's drags). I have the shop manual, but am wondering if anybody that has done this before knows about potential problems I could encounter? It sounds straight forward, but I'm not looking for surprises :)

Brock,

If I remember correctly, the instructions were wrong regarding the torque value for that large central clutch nut (value stated was a lot higher than OEM shop manual value)?

Just dug-up both your instructions and OEM manual:
Torque for clutch sleeve hub nut should be 68.5 lb-ft according to Suzuki and is stated as 108.5 lb-ft in the instructions for the mod I have (1300CONV.DWG dated 4-28-99).

Thanks Animal!
The original specs were wrong. My first manual also states that the wrist pins are 22mm!(they are 20mm.)
The changes were made to my drawings in mid summer of 99.
Many were assembled to the higher spec. with no ill effects.

Can anyone tell me what size the clutch hub nut is? I once did the clutch on my 89 GSXR1100 and had to go out and find, I mean BUY a 50mm socket from Snap-On ($$$).
Also, if you have an impact wrench does this mean you don't need the starter clutch holder tool from Suzuki (also $$$)?

Where can I order the mod from? How much? Its time to lose the slipper! Also how long does this mod take? What type of loctite?
Bob

it is a 30mm socket
and you know what I am going to say for customers I use the tool for myself you know
I have to use a torque wrench and holder tool for my job it is the best way to do it.

Robbase,
I don't wish to seem unsafe or inapropriate(no disrespect johnnycheese)....but 90% of the installers of the mod just hit the nut with an impact gun and call it done! That is why only a couple of people(out of over 1000) noticed that the torque spec. in my instructions was incorrect.

Brock, no problem as you can read I wrote it the most open way I could.
Thank you for your input I could not say it You know the rules.
Ps. goodluck this year.

wondering if anyone is going to be setup in daytona to sell and install Brocks clutch mod. If so where? I only have 100 miles of riding on the BUSA and want to see what the stock setup is like so i can judge the difference. Plus I don't want to give myself any problems before I ride it by missing something on the install. THANKS

Will do, thanks! No packages arrived today, so I guess I'll have to wait til monday :( Going to the strip again Sunday. Should be a Blackbird and Bandit 1200 there along with a 102hp ZX6 (my friends race bike). Looks like I'm about to get humbled :)
