JohnnyC seems to be on to the right track. Probably the fluid rather than something mechanical.

My first thoughts were that something's amiss in the clutch master-cylinder/hydraulic-hose/slave-cylinder system. Flushing the clutch fluid and bleeding the system will probably bring it back to spec. I would really doubt if there's anything mechanically wrong with the clutch.

Seems to me they would have bled the clutch system before "taking apart the clutch". What, have they got some kinda newbie tech back there?

If it's really just moisture/air in the clutch fluid, it might not be a bad idea to have them flush and bleed the brakes too. You REALLY don't want those to go away on ya.

cheers all,
Warren

Hi Johnny, as you say, I'm in Houston all right. You??? Sometimes I hook up with some buds at the Coney Island on Fri/Sat nites for the late-night squidliness and hooliganism. :-) Usually it's a daytime shred out west of town though.

I'm not aware of the shootout. What's up with that? Is there a FAQ or website about it? Actually, never having had a bike that was what you'd call fast in the quarter mile, I've been kinda out of touch about horsepower/qtr-mile stuff. Sounds like a cool thing to check out.

Thanks for the heads-up,
W

Hi All,

I picked up my new black/silver 99 from the dealer lastweek and on the ride home the cluch started slipping away from me. Eventally it gave out all together and wouldn't engage in any gear. Luckily I was nearly home and had to push the thing the last 200 meters.

You can imagine my disapointment. The next day I called the dealer and they picked it up but the clutch seemed to work again. They then phoned me later in the day to say that the same thing just happed to their test rider on my bike and they had to pick him up.

They're telling me they don't know what the problem is but it might be that the clutch fluid is boiling as the bike heats up. They have a call into Suzuki at the moment to find out how to fix it.

Has anyone heard of this happening before - Have I bought a dud? The dealer has had the thing for a week now and I'm realy pissed off that I've already got what sounds like a serious problem before I've even done 20 miles.

What are my options? Ant help would be greatly welcomed.

Sad new owner...

It's new with 0 miles on it (I did 10 miles before it crapped out). That's why the dealer didn't know about it. They taken the clutch apart and can't see whats wrong.

Wow a new 99 stll left somewhere that IS a find!I would not be bummed yet.I have had cases on other bikes that some times when the sit a long time the fluid will get moisture in it and gel up causing the return hole in the clutch master to clog and the clutch slipping.I am not your dealer but I hope they check out the common stuff first.Keep us posted.I messed up my last post .Where are you located?

nice to know where you are Your dealer my be slacking off the should have an answer in less than 48 hours and I know if it was one we just sold that it would not be collecting dust in the shop we would be working on it.
