We build and sell Suzuki Bandit Turbo Streetfighter bikes which includes mods to the frame and the entire bike. Depending on who the bike is for, we might leave the cast pistons in the bike or changeout to forged pistons. This post is to get some feedback from other Bandit turbo builders for your feedback on the build, carb jetting, low end power adjustment main and idle jetting, boost control options that you use and means of protecting the engine. In short, we love the turbo busa and our bandits run really well, but we have learned much about what not to do. The Bandit Turbo Streetfighter is the most affordable streetfighter out there in our opinion and we are saying that when our real favorite bike of all time is the Gen2 Busa.
We would like to hear back from riders that have put turbos on their Bandits and their stories or people that are considering putting turbos on their Bandits in which we can run an experience open dialogue. Love Bandits....

Although I once owned a heavily modded 1200 Gen 1 Bandit, I don't know of too many on this forum that currently own or ride one...

Do you frequent this forum:

A buddy has a red gen 1.
40mm flat slides
Balanced crank
Carrillo rods
1mm o/s intake and exhaust valves
Ported head
Had cams but they pitted so he put the GSXR cams back in it
He is unemployed and starting to have knee problems
Keeps hinting/asking what I think it’s worth
I don’t want to answer cause I don’t want to insult him

That said he sold me close to 2k in 50/50 new in box and used 1season bunches of Nitrous stuff for $200.

I bought a '98 Bandit new, rode it a few thousand miles and put a Mr. Turbo kit on it, and passed it along to my "child" a few years ago .. He's been riding it in California .. Odometer shows 95,000 miles and it still runs just fine with the only mods to the engine being a .060 spacer, under the cylinder, re-degreeing the stock cams to 105-105, and a lock up clutch .. And methanol injection too .. Made 154 @ 8lbs .. Great bike ..

A friend of mine has a 1200, but it's just stock with an exhaust.
He's considering putting a Gsxr front end on with adjuatable forks, and ss brake lines, but nothing major like a turbo.

Hello. Unless he is removing the fairing and doing some mods, I would like to ask what would the point be? My point is the Bandit is an ideal bike to make into a Streetfighter and super affordable. Everything about this bike is easy. The Hayabusa, which I have more than 1, is a great bike to customize, but not make into a streetfighter. After many many years of riding, my favorite bike without question is the HAYABUSA GEN2, then followed by the Bandit 1200. The gen2 engine is a beast. The Bandit is capable but the weakness are the pistons, they are cast, rather than forged. However, the Busa Gen2 has no limits and yes some people will talk H2 for power visavis its supercharger, but turbocharge the busa, and no comparison... plus the busa is so customizable and has so many accessory options it is in a league of its own. Am attaching my Busa Green Hornet (nitrous) pic.

Very nice. Should put some pics in and discuss a bit more. Sounds like an awesome build. Thanks for post.

This is a very nice looking bike. What we love about our turbo bandit is the addition of the Healtech quickshifter that works up and down shifting that just completely changes this bike into a demon on country roads. You have made this bike look good without having to strip it. Love to see some more pics of the turbo setup.

They are definitely not worth much even when tastefully modified....

I almost gave mine away as it took forever to sell....and it was in mint shape, no scratches, or anything.

I sold off all my bikes a while ago (except the Hayabusa) and....
When people came to get my other bikes, I offered the Bandit to them and all of them respectfully declined.

Uses a Rayjay (aircraft) F40 turbo in a draw thru configuration with a Mikuni HSR 42 mounted behind the engine .. Not an ideal turbo, or an ideal arrangement, but still gets a reliable 40 mpg on a trip, with a/f indicating 14.0 - 1 in cruise .. The only really downside to the draw thru is cold start where you get cold fuel puddling up in the turbo .. Cleans up after the first miles or two .. You learn how to cold start it and ride it away, and it's not really bad at all ..

Because, fully adjustable suspension.
Which makes a Huge difference in handling, along with a better rear shock.
The standard non-adjustable forks on the Bandit, it's handling leaves Much to be desired.

I’ve had a few… one of my early ones…

Never crossed my mind to turbo it. I have faired and naked Busa’s and a B-King that I’d much rather put some boost in to. I can’t see what I’d gain by boosting a Bandit over a Hayabusa.

Is that 1400 considered a Bandit?
We sadly don't have them in North America, but they are great looking bikes.
I really like riding the 1200 too, lots of low rpm torque makes it fun on the twisty roads, and better suspension would really make it a great bike.

Both the pics are MK-1 Bandit 1200’s.

No, my GSX1400 is nothing like a Bandit, quite a different bike in many ways. Although they are both oil cooled 16v IL4’s next to nothing swaps over, and they ride and feel very differently.

My 12 feels lighter, more nimble, you can tell it is what it is, a detuned Old Skool Sportsbike built with some budget parts, great fun though.

My 14 feels heavier, is a lot more planted and stable, more comfortable, noticeably more grunt. A better mile eater and when not crashed like mine, classic old Skool looks.
