I am considering getting a bullet camera to mount on my bike. Does anyone have any experience with these? What is good, what is bad, what do I need to be concerned with?

Also, what is a good mount for one of these? I am considering a tank mount if I can get one. Again, ideas are requested.

Thanks for the help.

PS. I did try the search function to no avail.

Got a manufacturer, model

I was thinking about something like this.  But I have no idea what I should look for or stay away from.  I thought this might be a descent entry level unit.....

The system on ebay has some good points. The bullet cam will do near DVD quality. Its the same resolution I'm currently running on my bullet cams. They retail for under $60. If you want to see what the bullet cam is capable of, Click here. The flicker in the video is from a loose connection because I didn't tape a BNC connector together

Of the 4 lenses they include, only 2 are useful on a moving motorcycle, the 3.6 and the 6. The 2.97 is a fisheye and the 8 doesn't give you enough field of view. The lenses retail for $6-$12 a peice, so it isn't too bad.

For the long run, I'd toss the battey pack and wire the camera to bike power. Nothing worse than losing great ride footage because your battery pack dies. Don't assume that you'll get the 14 hours out of it they claim. I run the bullet cams and the DVRs off of the bike.

The DVR looks like the weak link in the system. They don't say what model it is, and the specs they show are incomplete. This usually means low resolution. It dosn't matter what the bullet cam is capable of if the recorder can't record all of it. I use Calgary Storage Systems CAPP06 recorders which record at 640x480x30fps and retail under $150. I'm not able to find the model they are using. I asked the seller about it and will post an update when I get a response.

Forget about a tank mount for a bullet cam. Tank maounts are for camcorders and it will take a bit of fabricating to make it work with a bullet cam. You will need buy/make a mount for your bullet camera. I'm currently redoing all of my mounts. I found that what's good enough for street riding couldn't handle the rigors of the track.

It depends on the DVR whether this is worth bidding on. If the DVR does 640x480x30fps, the price is good and it beats having to piece it all together and figure everything out for yourself.

OK, I found the DVR selling separately in his ebay store. The DVR is a low res device, 320x240. If you are just getting started with video, I'd get an inexpensive miniDV camcorder and put it on a tank mount. If you get one that accepts A/V (Composit video) input, then you can use it to record from a bullet cam as you want to expand.

Thanks for you time and effort to look into this. That is exactly the type of information I wanted, but did not know enough to ask about.

My camcorder setup.  Front camcorder is on a tank mount and blocked up 2" to clear the dash.  After getting used to that, I added the rear facing camcorder at the back of the bike.  I had to fabricate the mount for that one.  I ran that combination for a season.  The 2006 Fall Busa Bash and 2006 Midwest Meet and Greet were recorded with this setup. The miniDV camcorders have 720x480 resolution which is better than most DVRs will record.  The down sides are the camcorders don't like the vibration of a Busa and just when you start having fun, you can lose the picture becasue the tape can vibrate off the recording heads. And it takes as long to download the video as it takes to capture the video.
