Took the busa out today - stopped to tun right at junction, - put it in first gear
and the gear shift foot peg snapped. I promptly lost balance and laid her down !!!
Bad bad day.
Anyone heard of this happening before ????

You're the first we've heard of. Was it dialed in properly ie lowered until it fit the position of you're foot? Just above you're toe when the foot is relaxed?

I am not particularly graceful with my feet and I have kicked and stomped the gears pretty hard with no problem.

It does s*uck scratching self and baby too.

Bert Branson's snapped off too, same deal, putting it into first gear! He didn't drop his bike though. Sorry to hear you wadded...that sucks.

It has to be more than a lump of metal, I smile every time I look at her, I can't help it and don't want to help it. Nurse your baby back to health.

Bod

Sorry to hear what hapened to you.
Like you said "I KNOW DIFFERENT" and I speak from experience. Make sure when you park the bike, especialy on an incline, that you leave it in gear.
Every time I see those scratches it makes me sick.
On a positive note, if you have to replace the broken parts, this is your chance to get the MIKUNI rear sets from KawAbuser.

My Busa is Uk bought in September - never had a problem with it. Have now spoken with my dealer who has not heard of this before either; - suggested I had dropped it on the gearshift. This isn't so - having lost balance I dropped the bike on the right hand side. The break was at the right angle near the rubber foot rest piece. Now have scratches to front mud guard - main fairing and exhaust - I try and tell myself it's only a lump of metal - but you guys know different don't you!!!!!

IF you and Bert had the same fluke thing happen compare vin # and production dates.

I have assumed these were forged, not cast parts (key word assumed, I will take a look).

How far back from the tip of the peg/mounting plate is the break? Clean snap? Did it bend then snap?

This way others can take a look at theirs and check for cracks. Was the metal porous (air pockets/bubbles)where the piece broke, if that was the case I would be ringing Suzuki's phone and having a rep check it out (they should pay for resulting damage) remind them you could have been killed in an intersection or when passing a trailer truck - no profanity, you can get your point across without it and you will come across seriously concerned for the possibility they could be getting the call from your widow. Avoid the words Lawyer or Lawsuit.

Take a picture and post it on photopoint and contact Bert to do the same - stress that it is a safety issue.

COMPARE PRODUCTION DATE and VIN#

I would like to see the photos if possible, Hemillard@snet.net

Unfortunately, I think that Suzuki would give you a new lever at best; they won't assume responsibility for the other damages because dropping the bike is not a common occurence for a broken lever, and paying a lawyer to do so would cost you more. I dropped my brand new CBR1000F back in '94 when I stepped in a puddle of oil at the dealer (it looked like water); he didn't pay a penny) so I know how you feel. If our bikes were just metal that would be fine, but they are metal and plastic; the latter making the repairs expensive. As I said before, check ALL important bolts and parts yourself RIGHT NOW; don't trust the dealer with your lives.

Thanks for the concern out there ---
It's difficult to describe the detail of the
break so I'll take a digital photo tomorrow and 'e' it to you kawabuser (I don't know how to post it on the 'net')
I've got a auto paint specialist coming around on Tuesday to see if he can repair the scratched fairing - I'll keep you posted.
Bod, (slightly less pissed)!
