ImageShack Links Do Not Work

Here is when we made it home from Birmingham in one piece. Pretty bad weather up there yesterday and we are ALL lucky to have made it back...

Gratuitous Duc shot....

Some thoughts after riding it twice today:

Tank bag? Fuggit about it, the tank is plastic!
Rear view mirrors? Hah, you cant see shi* in them. Ducati should have left them off!
Bike is hard, very hard to ride under 40 mph, very 'thumpy' and geared rather high.
6th gear? Only if you are above 90mph
This 1098 is the base model, I got it for $13K new and its suspension is atrocious. Very soft and the front dives like a cruiser when going down from speed. I'll be calling Traxxion Dynamics tomorrow to get some springs headed this way!

On the upside?
This bike is NASTY. Has a very harsh acceleration and pulls like a rocket. It goes from thumper to this vibratory freight train that is hyper stable and perfectly at home at 145mph (which is all I wanted on country back roads). My kids ZX6R had absolutely no chance in roll-ons.
The Busa is faster and pulls harder but make no mistake, the 1098 would hang with Mr. Busa up to... probabley 150mph or so.

Sound is F'n awesome and these Ducs are real attention getters! We came out of a store today and there was this older guy and what I think was his grandkid, they were checking it out and stayed around until I started it. "No, no" he said as his kid tried to pull him into the store. "We have to hear the Ducati fire up"!

I bought this bike for the track and I have two weeks until Barber. Got to change the springs and get the exhaust replaced.

Just thought I'd share our new family member with all of you.
I just love riding it, but still have a LOT TO LEARN about riding big performance twins!!!

No, but I probably could use some suspension set up advice.....

First I would find out what the stock spring rates are and then
see what springs are recommended for your weight. Have you
tried any suspension adjustments yet? Ya might just crank up
the preload and see if you can get her close...set the compression
and rebound, before you go aftermarket.

I love the 1098 and would like to get one myself...I'll see if I
can dig up some info and/or links to help you get her dialed in

Thanks Rich.
We did spend the morning 'tuning' the set up.
I set the preload as high as it would go, still way squishy.
Did the same with the rebound and compression, they made some improvements but the springs just seem too soft for my big a**. My thinking is that Duc probably anticipates the base model being on the street more than the S and certainly more than the R so they left it 'streetable' and not overly stiff.
I dont think the Showa springs will be that different, installation wise, from the Kayabas on Mr. Busa. I got pretty good at changing them and what a diff it made on him!

:bowdown: Randy, it's about time. I know you been wantin that for a loong time.

Congratulations, my friend:beerchug:
