Has happened twice now first time drove about 50 km no problem got her up to 160km and not an issue later coming home doing about 80 km and started bucking and chugging .Had to down shift and pull over trying to rev but non responsive finally dies. push start button fires up but cannot build any power or momentum. black smoke coming from exhaust
drove a bit further after several attempts and she ran fine all the way home.
other day take it to work and no issues get off work and drive about 1 km from work and she starts to sputter and act up again. turned key off turned back on and she was like nothing happened , drove about half mile and started chugging again . shut her off again and fired right back up and ran great for another half mile or so ...did this all the way home about 10 kms and now it sits in the garage .
I checked my code reader and reads c00 no faults...can start right up but have not taken for another ride yet as don't want to go too far and get stranded.
Checked plugs and look good except tips are black sooty looking got spark on all plugs using iridium plugs.
exhaust pipe is sooty looking as well ...suspecting and being told gas not getting burned
but can't figure out why.
New to the mechanic stuff but willing to try and fix myself as shop will take my first born as down payment !!
Any help from you seasoned guys out there would be greatly appreciated ..thanks in advance

It is a 1999 and has approximately 45000kms on mod is slip on hindle pipe but has never been a problem in past
have driven it for three years and previous owner had for rest of time
I am reading alot about fuel pump/filter etc, but it seems like the gas is not burning instead of being starved
Is it possible to still be the fuel pump/filter ?
really want to fix myself but limited experience and nervous to start tearing things apart and still be in same boat, but am willing to try to help cut down on repair costs. Thanks for your time and help ...surprised that only 1 reply of all the views

What year, modifications, and miles ?

Where in Ontario are you? At 45000 km I would check fuel first and foremost. Is tank inside clean? How old are fuel lines?

Pm me if you need help

I am in Toronto and have become someone of a reluctant expert on the 1999 fuel problems after getting stuck 1200kms from home on virtually low km bike.

In Niagara Region
Usually fill tank at end of year and put stabilizer in it for the winter then in spring change oil spark plugs etc
This year did not do the fill tank thing and maybe going to bite me in the ass. I have run about a tank through it though may be still some old gas inthere
I have my code reader attached to the bike and will leave on to monitor when riding for the next little while.
Took it out tonight and ran it up to 140 km and down again changed gears up and down and not one issue but like I said before it happens randomly but only twice so far will keep posted as plan to ride a bit this weekend but NOT TOO FAR !
Also have been suggested to change all hoses as not sure if last owner did that so may be due just as insurance to rule out
Thanks will keep posting as I see changes

Air filter is clean coils are showing good spark but not sure if it just cuts in and out .
Is there a way to check coil with out spark plug ? another test maybe to confirm . Anyway to check ECU ? WITHOUT FRYING IT
How is your air filter? coils?

Probably just that old fuel brother. I would fill it this year and add a fuel stabilizer. Grip It and Rip It

will keep you posted as to what I find and then the rest of the busa lovers can learn from my mistake

I buy most of my gas at local station and run the 90-91 octane as it suggests
Haven't had much chance to ride it in the rain but will give her a good run now the long weekend is here hopefully.
Phoned around and can't believe the lack of support for this bike even by the suzuki rep stores...clares won't do diagnostics on any bike more than 10- 12 years old , but they would be happy to sell you a new one to help out...okay won't be buying anything from them in the next little while.Got hold of a drag bike mechanic(hayabusa bike) and he suggested to attach my code reader on the bike while driving it and see if it throws a code while riding then go from there and at least we will know where to start looking so that is the plan for now
The alcohol added gas in the US is terrible, especially if stored in a vehicle.

Okay took out for ride today with code reader on but no codes thrown
bike did act up when decelerating at roughly 80kms per hour only slowing down not on the up swing
tried it and kept bucking around the 80 km mark regularly...any ideas??

Open up the fuel pump and replace the large O ring, I bet it's ripped and causes the the bike to buck due to air locks.
I had the same problem and replaced it, all good now. The reason this happens is due to the bad gas and causes the O rings to get damaged over time. Replace the fuel filter as well.

not yet driving it with code reader attached but no codes being thrown when it acts up
not sure where to look next maybe TPS sensor is out or ecu is sending too much gas as seems rich will be changing plugs for sure this weekend ...keep posted
Did you get that sorted? Sounds like spark or fuel........

here's a pic of my O ring, notice the frayed rubber.:banghead:

update
problem has not returned but still running kind of rough
did fuel injection additive thing
replaced spark plugs and I think it's time to look into the fuel filter but nervous as have not done this before
is there a kit you can buy for a rebuild on it ??
cost??
