Busa Running Cooler

How'd all

Well, I like everyone else has had overheating problems. I purchased my 06 Brand new last March and come summer I was running hot, to the point that every time I was stuck in traffic, I was sure to kiss the red line.

After plenty of research on this board…. Thanks all …. I had a good test today, and the mods worked.

It was about 90 degrees here in Northern Virginia and I got slammed up in some traffic for over an hour. When I mean traffic, it took 45 minutes to go 2.5 miles. It was hell.

and I felt like it too.

Anyway, the temp never got close to hitting red. I’d start getting hot, the Muzzy Fan kicked on and the needle dropped right back to the middle.

Mods:
Engine Ice
Muzzy Fan
Jet Hot Coated (ceramic) Headers (Yoshi 4:2:1 full race)

One thing about the coating… I’ve noticed that my mid pipe (not coated) (between the 4:1 and can) has started to bronze over, which tells me that the coating is moving the heat outside of the engine area and down the exhaust system.

It’ll probably wear out the packing in the can sooner, but what are ya going to do

BTW - I did Rolling Thunder and it ran cool then too

Cheers

Thanks. I will probably do these mods before too long. The 115 degree days are not too far off.

I know some will say that the muzzy fan's biggest asset is that it won't melt. I've also heard that engine ice really isn't what it's cracked up to be. However, I can tell you first hand that with my muzzy fan, my engine ice that my engine is running MUCH cooler this year than last. It seems that no matter what I do, how hot and humid it gets, my coolant temp needle won't even approach the half way mark. When it does, the muzzy fan puts it back down in a HURRY.

To say I'm pleased is an understatement. This stuff works period! I also have a Brock/Hindle full system too.

I need to do this mod soon as well. California isn't getting any cooler!

I echo Rev's question though, do you just add this to your coolant or is it a 100% coolant change?

You want to get the one that you add to the coolant other wise if you forget cold weather might get ya

From engine Ice's website below.

Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant is biodegradable, phosphate free & non-toxic; while reducing operating race temperatures by as much as 50°F and effectively keeping boil over temperatures to 256 °F or less and freeze-up protection to -27° F.[/Quote]

Good info guys I see that I will be doing this next month. When I was stuck in traffic in Daytona in March the temp hit the red line many times.

Wow, I may do the fan mod, but thank god for lane splitting. No matter how slow traffic is moving I can always kept going. So I may never have to worrry about overheating. But great info.

(Pipefighter248 @ Jun. 05 2007,20:44) 100% coolant change.
You will need two bottles to do the busa.
Maybe not 2 full bottles, but you should always keep some on hand. Agreed that some say Engine Ice, Water Wetter and stock coolant are all the same, but these 2 mods have been tremendous for me, as well.

I am begining to think that the Suzuki has issues. I don't see any reason why some Busa's should be overheating while another Busa can sit right next to it and run perfectly fine. I just had mine down in DC for Rolling Thunder, sitting in 95 degree heat with thousands of bikes running all around and my temp never once got passed the middle. Also, the first time I took my 05 for a ride in the middle of winter the temp went clear into the red when I came to a stop for 5 minutes and then never overheated again.

There are really no good reasons for this to happen unless there are manufacturing problems, maybe cooling passages are blocked. t

I installed muzzy fan after overheating at Daytona bike week a few years ago. No problems since the fan install. No engine ice.

I've never seen my temp hit the half way mark yet. I've sat in traffic long enough where my other bikes would have kicked the fan on. My bike is 100% stock.

I've never used engine ice, but if your looking to improve your coolant's ability to carry away heat, Water Wetter does work. I've used it and definitely can tell the difference it makes. And you can just add it to your coolant.

Another note, the concentration of coolant-to-water also makes a difference. 40%coolant 60% water is what I prefer to run, but 15% coolant would be even better. But thats just 'too much water' in there for me for comfort of corrosion protection.

While I won't have to worry about it, I wish I had known this the other day.

I overheated my bike at the ROT rally, even with the Muzzy fan. But I just have Penzoil 50/50 radiator fluid in there, so maybe that was the problem?

I really won't need it again for a few months until the October rally in Corpus, but I would like to know.

Can someone provide a linky to the muzzy fan?  And is this a do-it-yourselfer?

I just went into the red repeatedly while sitting in traffic at the Millville Air Show 2 wks ago, and it happened to me last year at the Willow Grove air show. So either I have to fix the prob, or stop going to air shows!
