+1 on the map question. Are you talkin about the ECM or a power commander? If it has a power commander my first guess would be it has the wrong map installed, if it doesn't have a power commander I'd say you might need one. When did the problem show up? Was it after a mod? Was it out of the blue? Did you just purchase it and this is the way it was when you bought it? More info is needed for any of us to be able to give you accurate diag. info.
did you check your engine idle rpm? I keep mine at 1500. Last summer, she started running rough, and I was getting pissed off, when I suddenly remembered to check to idle rpm. Adjusted it and now it's running fine again.

How many miles and have you been riding her this winter ? Bad tank of fuel, RPM adjust is a very good one, it can also change the rev limit , plugs, sync throttle bodies.
If you been riding this winter the fuel's not old, you still could have gotten a bad tank, the RPM adjust would be the first thing to check. 1400 sounds high, just refer to the manual.
