Busa's reps...

Ok I have a strange (in my opinion) question to ask. Over the weekend my brother was talking to one of his friends (who happens to own 4 bikes) Well He told his friend "oh my brother got a new bike and is looking to meet people to ride with". Well this guy goes cool what type of bike did he get. My brother answered an 06 Busa. The guy then goes, Oh I won't ride with Busa's. If he wants to ride I could let him borrow one of mine.

Now I fully understand that the hayabusa is one of the most powerful (straight from production) bikes out there. I know that it is one of the ones that can go that max speed of 183. But I have also learned that it does great if you follow the "when to shift gears guide" that's in the owners manual. Yes that means 6th gear at 50mph. I put 200+ miles on mine this weekend just riding the roads around town learning to control my bike. I'm not out trying to race people or do tricks or go whipping thru traffic so why would someone say something so silly like what my brothers friend said?

I have had so many people tell me to park my bike and go buy a 250 and learn on that and to do this or do that but as long as I respect the throttle and don't go trying to do anything stupid I have learned that bike can be loads of fun. Yes the weight and how to handle it kinda caught me off guard at first but I am learning. I know now it is kinda silly to be trying to learn to ride a street bike on a Busa but I know I'm not the first to be doing it. The Busa can go the 45 mph speed limit just fine! Is it just fear? The reputation that has been put out on it or what? I'm sure I will get more of the things I have already been hearing but I hope I get some good positive feed back also.

Thanks,
Mike

First and foremost your brothers friend doesn't know what he is talking about. I do Iron Butt Rallys on my Busa (that's rallys comprised of 1000 + miles per 24 hours) and I've never had a problem. So, that in it self should answer your reliability question

! My Busa has never let me down, and I doubt it ever will with good maintance. And as far as the speed goes, well that's controled by your right hand and BRAIN

! I generally shift a 4 to 5000 RPM no matter what gear I'am in and I get 42 mpg on long distance rides. So, what your brothers friend is talking about is PURE BUNK ! Just go ride and enjoy your bike and forget what every other guy (who probably really wants one) says

i dont know the whole situation but it sounds to me like your brothers friend is one of those ( i cant be out done ) guys... so i'm not going to ride with someone else that rides a busa. I wouldnt ride with him then...

yeah that is what I was thinking too.

This is an awesome bike and I love it. I looked and looked at all the bikes out there before I bought it. I bought it cause I love the look, the feel when you sit on it, as well as the power. IMHO the Hayabusa's are the sharpest looking street bike out there.

I agree with all the posts here i was wondering if you are a new rider (getting) that from the original post) did he know that you are a new rider maybe that's why he didn't want to ride with you.

They said the same thing to me about my VTX man. 1800cc's? That's way to big for you! You're only 5'8" and you just got out of the course.

Yup, I did. And I rode a 1500 Suzuki Intruder right out of the box (same day I finished the course). Jumped on the 1800 and am now upgrading again. My personal theory is that you ride what you like. The rest will figure itself out. I have a coworker who is doing 300+ mile rides on a 91' F2. It's actually amazing to me that he can tolerate it, but he loves it.

mike774u, you sound like a sensible, methodical sort to me, so I think you will make a good 'Busa rider.

If your brother's friends won't ride with you, find some other friends who will, or ride by yourself.

before you dismiss this other guy, mite be worth it to just ask him why he said that-if he thinks "aw, dude's gota busa-I'll never keep up, and he makes my bike look puny" and you let'em know you didn't buy the bike to impress folks or outrace everyone-you just like to ride the Busa bcuz thats the bike you wanted. He may change his mind about it and if not-o well. I only get to ride with Busas two/three times a month-guys around here are busy; but I hang with a bunch of guys on litre bikes and even sum 600s n 750s-it don't matter as long as you all ride the same way.:)

around here (memphis) the 'busa is used for a drag bike only. the first thing everybody body asked me when i got mine was are you gonna put this speed part, this speed part, etc. i was like no i'm gonna make it look sharp put some slip ons(for sound only) and roll the wheels off of it. he probably thinks youre going to want to run wide open everywhere you go and doesnt realize you just want to cruise around with other folks. if he cant handle it find somebody else to ride with. i ride with guys that have everything from harleys, yes harleys to 600's to other 'busas. we just get together ride and have fun. my .02

If your brothers friend has 4 bikes and none of them are a Busa, then he obviously hasn't figured it out yet that he could be happy with just one.... I think the Highlander said it best... "there can be only one"

and tomorrow i am supposed to keep the wrist in check while the old lady and i do a poker run with the "goldwing" club lol
