Bye bye Birdie

Saturday morning I head out for a ride with my buddy into the Everglades area of Florida where there is a descent road with twisties. On a stretch of 75 east, we are getting ready to exit in a 1/2 mile and I notice a road kill in the left lane, wouldnd't you know it, out of my right from the grass comes a Vulture into my path, I duck, and Blammm! it explodes on the right leading edge of my right fairing and frame slider... My Buddy freaked out with the explosion and the plumage as it wizzed off in a spin from the right side of my bike, my first thought and reaction was to look back at him thinking this thing would hit him too. At the end we pulled into a gas station near by, washed all the stuff off, and to my surprise only the inner finish paneling clips broke off from the body shift, and my intake was pushed back also, but no paint damage or cracks.

Has anyone ever hit something this big. I know a guy hit a deer here a while back. Let me tell you, you always think there is time to react, pretty much hold on and get lucky like me :please: One foot up and this ten pound bird hits my right hand, or hits me in the head and who knows.

Heads up for those kritters

I told you to come and have B-fast @ me casa... Glad you didn't buy the "turkey Vulture" farm!

Could have been a lot worse, glad it wasn't, & you are welcome for the clippy do's...

It was so gross Brother that all I wanted to do was get that smelly crap off my bike. I told Cristian two minutes later, should have taken pictures of the mess for the proof, but That was all it was. thought I would have damage to take pictures of, but got really really lucky....

That's one thing I've noticed about florida back roads.....lots of critters. We had deer in va, but sightings were rare for me. Down here there is something every back road ride. I ran across a dead boar in the middle of the road while I was riding thru the orange groves in Arcadia a couple weeks ago.

Glad you came out of that one easy! watch out for peacocks too.!! I almost hit a few exiting a curve in north lakeland area and they were just taking their sweet a$$ time crossing the road. I slammed on the brakes and missed them by inches. after that I started looking into upgrading my master cylinder:laugh:

Good deal it wasn't worse.

I just barely clipped the wing on this bird. I think at the last second he decided to abort abort abort!
You can see me in the gauge faces ducking it.
