cams are loud

I have 19,000 on the bike and had the valves all set. suzuki recommends .8-.12 clearance so they set them all to .10 so it was right in the middle. But when i turned on the bike I can really hear the cams tick. I remember i could always hear, but I dont know if i'm being paranoid or what... but it just seems a lot louder now then it used to be. Is that possible? I dont want to sound like an idiot with these guys, and suggest them to tear it all down again just because it doesnt' sound the way I remember it.

hmmmmm   that's a tough one....  I would have to hear it to decide whether it sounded loud...  you might be on your own there...  I can tell you that your statement "they set them all to .10" is a little disturbing...  since the gen 1 clearances are .1 to .2 intake and .2 to .3 exhaust (in mm) and .004-.008 intake and .008-.012 exhaust in inches...they set them all to .10 what??    also the shims are generally only available in .05 mm increments...  so you can't just "set them all to .10" even if you wanted too..(you don't) unless you're the luckiest mechanic on the planet...(that's why they give you a range of allowable clearance)..even if you wanted them all the same clearance, the chances of all 16 valves coming out to the exact same clearance are the same as me getting home from work to find Jessica Alba in my room

First off, the Gen I valve train is noisy. That said, the other suggestions are also valid. I'll even add another - cam chain tensioner. If the cam chain is loose, or between 'ticks' on the cam chain tensioner, it can be very loud.

Ok, I talked to the mechanic and I miss spoke myself a little. I appologize. they set the intake to .006 to be right in the middle, and the exhaust to .010 to be right in the middle. Does that still sound more achieveable?

Thanks for the help, ended up being the cam chain was semi-loose. Got the bike back and the throttle is super touchy/responsive compared to before, they must have adjusted something. I love it.
