Can Plans??

I have a really good friend that's a sheetmetal fabricator.  He works for a company that makes stainless food processing equipment.  They do incredible food grade tig welding.  Between my CAD skills and access to materials and his fabrication capacity, making up a custom can should be no problem.  The problem is coming up with a functional design.  I know from past experience that flow over fuction/sound absorbtion is the best way to start out.

I'd love to make something that looks more cool than the standard cylinder with a hole in each end!! I don't want it to look like those things on the side of a Rune either.  I'm not looking to start a business or anything, I'm already up to my ears in work.  I'm just trying to come up with something cool for my new Busa.

Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggestions or other useful info ;)

How about some kind of creative undertail exhaust system?
You'd be making at LEAST two, probably three so you don't leave out your townmates!! The tailpipe exit would have to be oval and rolled on the end (like a bigger version of the Corvette tailpipes) OR dual side by side 1 1/2" outlets.

I'm going to be pressed timewise to come up with a single "UN-canny" can replacement design!  A cool undertail was my first thought too but that's complicated.  All of the undertails I've seen get really hot too. My initial thoughts for an undertail was to suround the pipes with some layered cooling around the actual pipes, posslibly forcing air when stoped from a small ducted fan. Way to complicated though.  I just want a cool looking can replacement.

Moose,
If I come up with something that works, I'm sure my Buddy will be glad to make more if he can do it profitably.  I have a BUNCH of stainless BBQ and outdoor cooking equipment around here!!  Something sort of square with square rolled tip outlets might be cool.  I don't want it to look like some factory cluster F though!!  This will be a fun project.  Once my bike is sitting in my shop, I'll get inspired.

I need to find a good, used 4 into 1 to start playing Frankenstein with.

I'm still pissed that you didn't show yourself till it was too late... I was right there in Tampa and I Spent 4 years Studying Metalsmithing under Nilda Getty. It's what I went to the University for. BFA in Metalsmithing.

Yeah Knives, Bowls, cups, Goblets, Copper, Silver, Steel, Gold, Titanium....

A life long love of knives and fine art...

I love the Idea of making your own cans. Especially if we are talking about just the cans. The full system might take some Tunning to get just right, but using the factory headers or maybe some D&D headers could really lead to something schweet... Great Idea.

Rev,

That's interesting. I sometimes work with guys getting started in knifemaking and I know a few that have a very similar background. My father was a shop/industrial arts teacher. My Mom was actually very good at finish carpentry and woodworking! She also took several classes involving working with copper an enjoyed it as a hobby for years. We still have many of her "projects" around the house. I also have her hammers and forming anvils.

As far as the exhausts systems..........

The fabricator guys have made some good looking hotrod headers and intakes over the years. I don't think it would be time or cost effective to have them attempt a complete system.
