Run slip-ons without PC? Can you do this safely, or will the bike run like crap?

Yes you can it is safe and it will run fine but depending on the slip-ons you may loose a few ponies.

If it is a 2nd gen the computer will compensate for the increased exhaust velocity. If it is Gen 1, you really should use a Power Commander. Make sure you do the marble mod under the air box to prevent backfiring.

Why would you want to stop back firing?

Hell, is there a mod to create more back fires. :beerchug:

This will happen only with slip ons correct? Not a full system?

I have an 08 with full shortened yoshi with no programmer or tune and my bike runs great. The gen II have o2 sensors that will more or less compensate for the increased air. Yes a tune or programmer will always increase performance but is not necessarily needed.

i had yoshi's on and it didnt run too well. no back firing, just wasnt a smooth ride esp. from 1st gear.

:hijack: So, on my 2000 it shouldnt be done without a PC. I just want a better looking pipe with a little louder tone.

You will be fine!
Slipons do NOT require a PC, but it doesn't hurt if you get one and have it tuned. It also doesn't hurt if you don't.
Go with the set that you like the best and ride the wheels off of it.

Actually, just the opposite.
Slipons are nothing more than a better flowing muffler(in most cases), so nothing else changes to cause a backfire.

Installing a header and not blocking off the pair valve usually causes it to backfire on decelleration.

Just did the pair valve and works amazing. Mine backfired bad and now not even a hint of it. What would we do without fellow members helping each other out.

Ran Mk1 Busa's with Stock pipes, Yoshi RS3's, Yoshi tri-ovals with baffles,
Yoshi tri-ovals without baffles. Never touched anything to change just end can's.
Always run fine. Never a drama. All good.

All the guys I know only re-map or do the P.A.I.R mod with a full system.

The gen 2 ecu can alter fueling at low rpm low throttle only based on the narrowband o2 sensor on board. Wide open throttle stuff etc its not going to fix anything on its own, not that having slip ons would really require much of anything at wide open throttle to be fixed.
