Carbon-fairing inners

I know this topic has been discussed here on the board on several occasions. I recently purchased a real carbon fiber tank cover from Geelong Carbon Crafts, they are a company out of Australia. I inquired as to the possibility of carbon inner-fairings, explained the lack of availability here in the states, and that the only source I've found orders direct from Japan with a shipping cost that totals $600.00 delivered.

Kim (very nice lady) said that if demand was high enough they could produce such a product. I sent them some links to some pics I seen on the net, and said I would forward some pics to her if I could get some of my own fairings.

Here's her reply:

Hi Scott

Thanks for the email and the link. Phil has had a look and says he would be able to make the parts, however the cost would have to be around US $200.00 per side with at least 10 confirmed orders with 50% deposits paid. It would take him a solid 2 weeks just to make the moulds which means no production on any of our outstanding orders. Not sure if you guy’s want to pay that much. Anyway let us know what you think.

Kind regards

So what do we think, still to much? Is there that Large of an interest among busa owneres for this product. I know I really would like a set, have even contemplated the $600.00.

Anyways, interesested in follow up posts on the subject, and maybe if anyone has any real good close-up pics they could forward those on to Kim maybe even those of us interested in this product maybe send her off an e-mail showing interest so she see's I'm not the only one. Maybe with enough interest, and enough begging, we might as a group get an even better deal.

inners? are you talking bout the carbon fiber side panels that hold the fairing and bike together?
i've seen some on a couple BUSA's and would love to purchase them, let me know if you find some for cheaper.
$200 per side is ridiculous

But Taze, this is for "REAL" carbon fiber. That stuff is really expensive. I remember inquiring about this a few months back and got a lot of responses. Most people agreed that a 3 to 4 hundred dollar price range wasn't out of the question for "REAL" carbon fiber. I would be willing to pay it, but not a penny more. With enough interest, we may be able to get it down to the 350 to 380 range. I really like the look of carbon fiber and think that it would look real nice on my '02 silver/gray. Just my .02, but it can sometime be worth a million bucks...

I used to want them but, decided they were too expensive and moved away from the carbon fiber theme.

I'd like CF inners but no way I'd plunk down a non-refundable 50% deposit on unknown quality CF stuff. Quality varies WIDELY in fiberglass and CF stuff. Just because it is "real carbon fiber" doesn't mean it's actually nice carbon fiber.

Thanks for the posts, I'm just trying to feel for the real desire for the inners and if busa owners are willing to pay for some style. I agree, it's alot of cash for pretty cosmetics, but those plastic stock are just so cheap an uninteresting. The carbon tank cover is really nice, though I realize there's a large difference in the fab work between a curved tank piece and inner-panels. Anyways, keep the posts coming, and like I said in the original post, maybe forward some questions or comments on to Kim at Geelong (see original post at top for email). Thanks

I'll second that....Glad to pay the money, but only if I know the quality is high.....

The quality of the parts is famous, I`d bye them any time again. The time for making (they produce it after prepaying) is nearly 4 weeks. The pictures couldn`t show it well. My meanining "IT`S PERFECT"

HBJ, so what are we looking at in american dollars for a pair like your showing in the pics from germany. I have no problem pre-paying and waiting if I'm recieving quality fit and finish parts.

We are talking true carbon replacements right, not some carbon cover or something?

Interested in more info!

I just emailed christalcomposites for info, I believe it's french, so....................... Who knows

mzrsq, its not a carbon cover or something like that, it`s made of real carbon, and it fit`s to the bike like a stock part. I hope you have luck and they ship to US

Look nice, but too expensive for my blood. I'll have to wait until they have 'em at Walmart.

I've been following the thread, put me down for a set. I tryed to email chrystalcomposites but never heard from them. I'll go with the aussie company.

OK First the Geelong Tank cover, do you have a couple shots you can show us? Looks pretty damn cool.

I have been wanting carbon inners since I got the Busa, I think they would look great. However, when you look at the price of the damn things they start making less and less sense. There is just no value added with these. No significant weightloss, no performance gains. Not to mention that these particular pieces are not load bearing, they are not structural. So to continue seeing them in the $400-500 range is just sorta amusing. Plain old supply and demand I guess but still your not going to get your $$$ worth outta CF Inners, your just pissing it away...

Not that that is an all bad thing, I know the bling bling crowd see's the money VS performance equation a little differently, so as long as your OK spending bags of money without actually improving anything, then carry on!

Hey Revlis, I just got the tank cover in Tuesday, been busy, then the bike was in for break-in service for 2 days, so I haven't got a chance to put it on yet. It is a really nice piece, will post some pics as soon as I get a chance to put it on and take some.

As for the inner panels, I agree with you, but they are just so big and plain. Painting them to match can't be real cheap either. To each his own, it's all about personal taste, choice and preference. As the bike is new to me, outside of exhaust, pm3, tre, I have no real desire to had to the hp/performance factor of the bike. So that leaves appearance, and trying to make the bike my own. To all of those who would much rather lay out 400 bones for nitrous, I very much understand, but there are those of us who have no need and fell $400 is better spent on some BLING.

I'm hoping if we can generate enough interest among the Busa loyal, we can bridge that gap of affordabilty by quantity. If we as Busa owners can show a manufacturer through emails, or phone calls that there's a large enough following, and there can be profit in this part, they will finally offer it to us locally, and affordably ( ok, that's probably not a word

Thanks for the posts, will keep you all informed on the search

The stock parts don't weigh that much, is $400 worth it for appearance?
