carpal tunnell in the wrist.

My left wrist and hand has been hurting all summer, at first I thought I was getting a case of gout in my hand but it is corpaltunnell from riding.

I do two exercises to stretch the tendons in my arms. First, stick your arm straight out in front of you and let your hand fall at the wrist. With the other hand, pull backwards slowly on your fingers. Your palm should be facing back at this point and you should feel the stretch on top of your arm between the elbow and wrist.
Second, again stick your arm straight out in front of you and pull your hand back. Your palm should be facing straight out like you are making a "stop" sign. Then with the other hand, pull grip your fingers and pull back. You will feel the stretch in the bottom part of your arm. Repeat each exercise for the other arm and you will feel some relief. it works great for me.

Well, here's all I know about it. Unfortunately, the riding position on the Busa naturally puts pressure on your wrists if you are keeping your hands on the grips. One thing I do when taking long trips is just hold my right hand on the throttle and put my left hand between my belly and the tank for support. This takes the weight off the throttle wrist and of course relaxes the left wrist. If you've got a pot belly, which I'm sure some of us do, you can scoot back a little bit on the seat and rest the pot belly on the tank, thereby taking weight off the wrists again. I'm still working on some kind of idea for wearing a fanny pack in front to rest on, or putting a small pillow under my jacket to make my belly bigger. It sounds silly, but I tried it and it works. Now, I'm also thinking if I was in a touring situation, some kind of tank bag would accomplish the same thing by giving me something to lean my weight on. It's kind of tough thing to figure out because the Busa was made for tucking in and going FAST..!!
I've also been doing some thinking on how to fabricate some extender bars/grips that would fasten onto the ends of the existing grips to allow one to sit up straighter. Still in the thought stage though.!!
That's about it for my two cents worth.

If you think you have Carpal Tunnel I would recommend you see your doctor and go to a Neuroligist to determine if it really is Carpal Tunnel. Arthritis & Carpal tunnel have alot of common symptons . I am going thru the same thing thru work right now and have been sent to a Neuroligist 2 times . On both occasions they told me that I have Carpal Tunnel in my Right Hand and Tendinitous in my right elbow. Both might require surgery. Do Not put it off because it only gets worse. My Doctor has me on an anti-inflammatory medication (Methylprednisolone) right now to help with swelling in my elbow and wrist/hand. If you allow for more vibration to your hand or wrist it will get much worse. Exercising your wrist will help for awhile but will not solve your problem completely . Carpal Tunnel can spread up your arm if it goes un-attended without proper meds & doctors supervision. I am hoping for surgery real soon as I can't ride til it is done.

Carpal tunnel affects the Palm of your hand up to your Thumb and to your Ring finger . Your wrist is only affected by the swelling due to Carpal Tunnel .

Are you sure it's carpal tunnel? You may have wrist ganglions.

Anyway, I took the pressure off my wrists my doing the following: 1) installing a block riser, and, 2) I always ride with a Joe Rocket Manta tank bag, which takes the place of a pot-belly. It gives me something to lean on and is quite comfortable.
