well, about 6 months ago I feel down a flight of stairs at work after slipping in some animals urine in one of our disqusting housing project stairwells and broke my right finger, tore my left rotator cuff muscle in my left shoulder and hyperextended my left wrist. not a good night.
so, I knew I would have to have my shoulder repaired cause I had an MRI that confirmed a tear. but the last couple months I have noticed that I am losing feeling in my left thumb, index finger and middle finger. at times it feels like electricity is running thru my fingers if I twist it at a certain angle. when I sleep at night my entire hand goes to sleep and wakes me up in the middle of the night. most of the discomfort is in my thumb. feels like pins and needles.
so I went back to see the orthopedic surgeon last week and explained to him that the sensation in my fingers was getting worse. I assumed the entire time that it was a result of my shoulder injury but he states that I have classic symptoms of carpal tunnel impingment.
I said that im right handed and dont even type with my left hand so how could that be? he said its definately is not coming from the rotator cuff shoulder area. I have no issues coming from my neck right now either which I guess can cause similar symptoms.
he asked if I had any injuries to my wrist. I stated that I bent it back when I tore my rotator cuff but thought nothing of it cause I didnt break anything. he says that is likely why im having problems now and scheduled a nerve conduction test.
anyone here have carpal tunnel issues? if so, what have you done to address it? if you had surgery how long was the recovery?
