Centre stand fitting

I know this topic has been debated to death but, nevertheless I have decided to fit a centre stand for my tour this summer. I have got myself the stand I just need some instructions and tips in fitting. Has anybody got some instructions they can post or any of the tips that are floating around where you don't have to drop the pipes and rad? Thanks in advance.

Some people say you don't need to pull the pipes, but I could see no way to do it without pulling them. I just loosened them at the headpipes (after removing the cans) and rocked them down for enough clearance.

Plan on taking a couple of hours for this job. Make sure you have a swing arm stand and a fork stand. Also, get metric allen wrench adapters for your ratchet if you don't have them already. Makes the header easier to pull.

Aside from removing the @#$#%! fairing and pulling the radiator forward, installing that double spring is the hardest part. I just used screwdrivers to pry it on, but maybe some automotive brake spring pliers might work easier.

One truly amusing note: The first task in the Suzuki instructions is to put the bike on the centerstand! LOL

This job is a pain, but the results are worth it ten times over. Good luck!

If memory serves correct it did in fact require the removal of the exhaust system... maybe that's why mine is still in the box!

You'll love the center stand. Well worth it!

If you are good you do not need to pull the pipes but you will need two people to install it.
Best $$$ on a mod I ever spent

My buddy and I accomplished the job in about 2 hours w/o removing the exhaust pipes but we did have to pull the clutch side muffler and take off the hanger bolts. Lots of effort but well worth it if you travel distance and flat you'll be glad you did this mod. Wardie:laugh:

are worth it ten times ?? CAN I ASK WHY WOULD YOU WANT A CENTER STAND IF YOU ALREADY HAVE FRONT AND REAR STAND'S ?? ???:whistle:

1) Can easily adjust your chain when away from home.

2) Steadier and safer to park on the center stand than the side stand.

3) Takes up less room in the garage on the center stand. Easier to get around the bike.

4) When I want to wash or work on the bike, it's easier to put up on the center stand than to drag my swingarm stand out of the loft above the garage.

5) Nothing to trip over when working on the bike.

But there are some down sides:

a) Pain in the butt to install.

b) Carry extra weight all the time.

c) Lose some cornering clearance.

d) Lose the little lower wing fairing. I miss the look.

All in all, I really like having a center stand. Was worth it to me.

Tim - I did the best I could with the camera, hope this will hold you over until I get to the scanner. Each page below is linked to a larger image. If you use IE for your browser in the lower right corner you can change the zoom level.

:whistle:U will say its a 30 min job after! It is on my 06 anyway. Remove the L- mid/muffler, remove belly pan and the header mount bolt above it. With a hefty pry bar use it to gain just enough to get the stand stop bolt in past the L-header tip (biggest one) then the pivot which secures the stand. All done! Oh and don't fight with the springs! fold the stand they go on easier. No header flange loosening or fairing's to fight with.

Beautiful bike, 8Daytona8. Love those wheels. Might be time to get my center stand out of the box :).

I was wrong. It's not line 1. It's line 3!

3. Park the vehicle in level place on its center stand.

Reminds me of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

If anyone can scrap the centerstand in it's up position then sirs ...you are a better man than me. Weight is neglible. Wardie

Right on the money. Great advice. Took me about 30 minutes, taking my time.
