Chain Maintenance

Would someone please let me know the best chain lube to use and how often. I have heard so many different lubes to use I am now totally confused.

Also, is it bad to use kerosene when cleaning the chain?

The service manual says to clean with kerosene and to lube with motor oil only. My routine is that after each ride I put the bike up on the stands and clean the chain with kerosene on a terrycloth towel, then I'll lube it with a mix of motor oil and Chain Wax. Quick and easy works for me. A lot of folks are using the Dry Dupont Teflon Spray Lubricant.

Excellent tool is the search, there have been numerous posts over the years regarding chain maintenance.

i have always used kerosene to clean the chain, it's what the owner's manual suggests for cleaning it. As for lube, many on here will suggest many different type of chain lubricant. I have tried bel-ray super clean (sticks to the chain good with no fling-off but attracts dirt), pj1 blue label(really like this lube, doesn't fling much and stays nice and tacky), and the dupont teflon (keeps the chain really clean and doesn't attract dirt at all, no fling-off period). My two favorite chain lube's so far are the pj1 blue label and dupont. Can't decide which i like better, the pj1 always looks like the chain is freshly lubed after riding, but the dupont keeps the chain so much cleaner. I know a lot also use maxima chain wax, never tried that lube yet

There can only be one. Dupont, it is a generation ahead of everything else. All hail the Dupont Chain lube.......

I honestly didn't clean my chain for the first 11k miles. The only time it got adjusted was when the tire got replaced. I have gotten better about it now that theskaz is around. Now I try to clean it once a .....3 months....lol I know. bad news. But I do have over 24k on my stock chain in my defense

Some swore by Dupont Teflon Chain-Saver and wouldnt use anything else. What say you fellas?

I use Maxima Chain Wax. Love the stuff, haven't used anything else so I can't tell ya otherwise, I strip my chain and relube every 1000 kms. at the 1000 mark the chain is clean and still lubed well around the o rings.

I just started to use the dupont stuff (as recommended on here). So far so good--it seems to stay lubed and clean. If so--then it gets my vote!

yep..
