Just on the Busa wagon, bought my 08 couple of months ago. I am about to tke it for the 1st svc and noticed my chain is resting on the exhaust is that normal for a bike with 700 miles on it?

Not normal for it to be that loose. It could have been improperly adjusted from the beginning. Also, if you've been riding it hard, it can cause the chain to stretch faster.

If you're taking it in for service, make sure they properly adjust it.

For sure, maybe a little hard but not ridiculously by any stretch we shall see. Regaurdless made a great choice what a bike!!!!

Probably the axle nut was not torqued down properly.

My chain was adjusted perfectly and the axle nut was tq right when I left the dealer with my bike, I know because I set it up out of the crate and within 200 miles my chain was that loose as well, So did the other 3 busa we sold. All of us that are racing took the chain off because we did not trust it. went with an ek zzz and it stretche just alittle bit after 300 miles and 30 some runs and know with 130 runs and 1500 hundred miles I have not touched it!

My chain stretched a lot but not that much. I needed to adjust mine at 300 miles but it has been fine since.

Thanks for the tip, that is the scoop I was looking for.

Proper maintenance is critical for long chain life. Keep that baby clean and lubed. I have 11000 miles on my stock 08's chain. The only time it has needed adjustment (aside from when it's adjusted at tire changing time)was when I let it get dry on me during a 2300 mile trip.

"Stretch" by the way, is wear on the pins not actually stretch.

Mine was lubed after ever ride and did not make a difference.
How is the adjustment? There are a lot of guys that run their chain too tight, causing excess wear. Basically it needs to be on the loose side of the specs to get the most out of it. Also, what are you using for lube? I used the suzuki lube with S-Moly until my dealer quit handling it, now I use the PJ-1 black label. They appear to be the same stuff. They are nasty if you get too much on, they make a terrible mess. But my last chain went 23000 miles only being adjusted when the tire was changed, then I sold the bike.

New chains always stretch.

You should be cleaning, lubing, and "checking the chains tension" at least every 300 miles.

Do that and it could last 30,000+ miles. Mine did and I don't ride like a grandma
