Chase Blows - Credit Card

Used to have a Providian account which I guess got bought out by Chase.

Wow...not only are they just hammering me with a ridiculous interest charge...
they just dropped my credit limit (in 1 month mind you) down to were the
finance charge will put me over the limit and then charge me an over the limit
fee.

Seems rather....unscrupulous to me

So naturally I give "customer service" a call, once I get disconnected the
second time I get an ADDRESS as to which I can write (I can write...this guy
doesn't sit in an office with a phone) and the entity on the
other end will review my account and decide whether or not to reverse the
overlimit fee, then a very quick "have a nice day, good-bye".

wtf was that ???

Never been overlimit or late btw...

Meanwhile, while my credit card company has started the reeming process,
(I've kept this to myself, till now) my work (manufacturing) has decided to
remove my bonus, take me off salary, demote me to hourly and I only get paid
when we work, which is like every other week. Basically cutting my pay in half
or less. I'm off this week btw...zero pay. Been there 22 years...time to get out.

I'm just so glad our govt' gave Chase Millions or was it Billions $$$....way to go.

Really sorry your getting jacked around. Maybe you should try to find another credit card company to transfer your balance to then pay that sucker off as quickly as possible.

They have to make up the profit they are going to lose when the law that caps rates goes into effect in Feb

they did that to me when they bought bank one, had 2 accounts with them. they raised the interest and lowered the limit to barely over the balance. when I called, the reply was "it will stay at this rate for 6 months and then we will review your account to see if we can offer you a lower rate" at that point, we were never late on those accounts, went from 3.9% to14.9%...late on another card...hello 24.9% followed by 32.9% debt consolidation and 3 years later, we have no active cards and have almost payed off the last account

Credit cards should be banned from activity past one month. If it's not paid in full at the end of the month, it becomes unuseable until the balance is paid. It's way worse than the mafia with their loan shark business back in the 30's when Al Capone was alive and thriving and it's legal for the banks to do it.

A credit card balance is no more than a loan like the payday loans you get on what seems to be every street corner in america. I have never carried a balance on a credit card in my life. I have always been aware it's a sinking hole in quicksand. Once you step in, it becomes almost impossible to get out. If I can't afford to pay it off at the end of the month, I don't use it. Simple application that would serve most Americans well.

This tactic has been around a long time...... Way back in the day "Chase" did this very thing to da Bug! Young and dumb I was, so I made for easy pickens... They kept raising my spending limit (and so did I ) until one day they dropped it for no reason (or if you read the fine print, for just about any reason they need they can make it happen) and POOF... I was in the same situation. I too called, wasn't that a joke! But, the real joke was on them cause unlike most, da Bug had the cash to pay off the entire debt. Which I did along with sending a letter informing them to NEVER send me so much as a post card Almost twenty years later and the bug is still CC free but what a painful lesson. I still take the time to remind Chase what a piece of %@ they are and everyone who will listen...

Cash is king my Brother, my advice is to give the CC's up! Get help if you need it and get on a budget. If that means scaling back better to do that today, cause tomorrow it'll only be worse.... Oh, and yes I learned this lesson as well the hard way. Almost a five year long learning opportunity if you will, as a young man with a good job! Now, as an older man "Green Visa" (Cash) is my currency of choice.

You said it.....don't live off of credit and there will never be a problem. People need to get in a mindset of "buy what you can afford now" and not "Oh, Ill pay that off later" Because something always comes up and then you get the snowball effect.....

I dont even know what my CC rate is, but I personally dont care, just pay off the balance every month....

I haven't checked the fine print on a credit card in a few years since I paid off my last one and closed the account but it use to be that whenever the original agreement was changed you have like 30 days to accept the new policy. You accept by not canceling the card. If you call and cancel the card and tell them you are canceling because of the new interest rate or whatever I believe they are legally obligated to keep your current interest rate as is until you pay off the card. The bad part of this is that you can't use the card any more since you canceled the card but the good news is that you don't have to pay stupid/high interest rates and it gives you time to pay of the balance or get a new card and transfer the balance.

Another interesting fact about credit card companies is how they profile their clients. The credit card company keeps track of all your purchases and compares them to other customer's charges. If they notice a trend in behavior with their bad customers they will up your interest rate, lower your available credit, or just cancel the car. For instance say you use your card every month to buy lunch and gas but that's it. Then one day you go and use it at Wal-Mart that will bring up a red flag to the credit card company. You are now out of your normal routine. The credit card company then compares their data to your transactions and if this routine leads to credit card default in their mind they take action no matter what your credit score is or your history with the credit card company.

Chase does suck IMHO! I had a card with them a few years ago that I just kept as a back-up for an emergency. I never used the card and had no balance. One day out of the blue they send me a bill WITH A LATE FEE! Three phone calls later it still wasn't resolved, although each time I was assured it would be taken care of. I went out on the web and tried to find the CEO's contact info and instead found a whole website with dozens and dozens of people complaining about issues with the company. I was like oh crap I'm never going to get this resolved! It took a certified letter threatening to sue if my account wasn't resolved and closed before it was finally fixed. I WOULD NEVER DO BUSINESS THIS COMPANY!
