cheap mod list (please add if I'm missing something)

So i have my buddies Busa sitting in my garage. He lives in NY and rides it when hes here. it's poping outta second gear. I was told by a local bike shop that it was $1500 to have it fixed if I pull the motor and give it to them. At this point I'm gonna pull it and try and fix it myself. I've done them before in R6's how much harder could it be? anyway on to modding, If I'm gonna have the motor out I was gonna try and do a thinner head gasket, velocity stacks, small air box mod, powercamander, and exhaust. does this list sound okay? I'm unsure of the stacks if they'll help the busa or not. I was thinking about ajustable cam gears or something. the bike is used for street riding only. It gets ridden to the beach, around town, and down the twisties some days. please give opinions if you think this a good small mod list, if something should be added or if its a waste of time.

thanks Bill

I see no reason to crack the head open myself...

split the case, pull trans and spend that extra money fixing the transmission.. (you can go from like $100 to $600 depending on upgrades)..
I looked at aftermarket and factory gaskets and they are very different.. factory uses the graphite impregnated with solvent based sealer in critical areas, the aftermarket stuff was just gasket material.. I went with the factory stuff (afraid of leaks) but I am sure the cheaper stuff works if you are careful.. (and a little lucky?) can not imagine they would be selling this long if they were no good..

Exhaust and external bolt ons? why not.. they are heck of a lot lighter than stockers..

well, I was gonna use a thinner head gasket to bump the comp. up a little. I don't mind cracking the motor open. this is what the local performance bike shop recomended. I just don't feel the need to pay them that much money when I can do it myself. I was a auto mechanic for 10 years and still have all my tools. I've done stuff like this before, I'm just not trying try to waste time and money on mods that are gonna do a whole lot. thats why I'm here.

I have a thinner head gasket (cometic) to bump the comp. up. Works fine for me, no issues. Had the motor out anyway (spun a rod bearing) so got the head cleaned up while I had it apart.....
All the rest of what you're doing is bolt on stuff, no harm in any of that.

Pipe and Airbox is obvious. The Gen I can benefit from cams. The one on the exhaust side is definitly small. You can pick up a used (Gen I or Gen II ) intake cam for <$100 to put on the exhaust side to wake things up. Again, on Ebay you could probably find a used Web hard weld drop in intake cam for realative cheap money.

BTW, before you pull the motor do a leakdown and make sure the valves and rings are OK. Doing hop ups on a weak motor is useless.

the skipping is more than lokely just a bent fork. you can replace that without removing the motor. very simple fix. in about 2 hours time. and buy the billet shift shafts to prevent bent forks in the future. as long as no gears are damaged.

The small air box mod is simple to do.
Also blockoff the PAIR valve, R1 Throttle tube, 4-2-1 Exhaust, Gixxer1k Wheels, going up 1 or 2 teeth in the rear sprocket.
