CHEC indicator and "hot smell" from cans

Hey all. I just picked up my black and silver '05 tonight and took it out for a test spin. I have two questions:

1) Is that smell from the cans common? It smells as if something is burning off? A very hot burning smell...

2) The CHEC indicator...when I turn my key to 'on' the indicator says CHEC but goes to clock when I start up. Is this common...I figured out the temp gauge from the owner's manual...how it goes to H when the key is on but the kill switch is off...freaked me out the first time! :-) But I didn't see anything about the CHEC indicator.

Thanks for the help guys and gals. :-)

I think the smell from the cans are normal. When i put on my Wolf slip-ons it was more noticable till it was burnt off.
I think that everytime u turn the key to on it does a system check (but not sure). Also if u have it in gear with the kickstand down u will see chec indicator.

I notice the hot smell more when it is cold. You are in Wisconsin which is not far from me, so I am sure you are noticing it just like me. Sounds normal. Plus the Busa moves all gauges all around when you are gettin ready to fire her up. Kinda like a pre game show! Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks Bill! It sure could be the cold! Today wasn't too bad, but I didn't go too far either. Still a bit of salt dust on the roads, but not so cold to be uncomfortable when riding. I need to hose her down, wash her up, and get a good coat of wax on her tommorrw. I didn't take her out until I got home, which was about seven tonight. I borrowed my buddy's sled trailer to pick her up, with intentions not to ride until a few good rains to wash all the salt dust off the roads. But the more I thought about it, the harder it was to resist just a short ride. :-) The temp had actually dropped from the nice afternoon we had, though, so it was a bit chilly. I'm happy with her, though! She's a great ride.

Where you at in Wisconsin? I am just south of Dubuque here in Iowa. If it is above 35, I get the Bus out for a ride:)

Many others have tried, but few have succeeded and it only gets worse!

I live in the Berlin area, about 15 miles west of oshkosh. It's beautiful out today, about 51 outside and all sun. I'm heading out to ride soon. :-)

When you turn the key, CHEC will show, but will go to the clock (unless something is wrong) when you start. This is normal.

BTW - now I gotta go and get a new avatar......

the check indicator will be on if the kick stand is down and you are in gear when you turn on the key. The exhaust smell will go away after a few days of riding.
