Baby Carrots

The following is information from a farmer who grows and packages
carrots for IGA, METRO, LOBLAWS, etc

The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are
made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through
a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots - most
people probably know this already.

What you may not know and should know is the following:
Once the carrots are cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are
dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them.
(this is the same chlorine used in your pool).

Since they do not have their skin
or natural protective covering, they give them a higher dose of
chlorine.

You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator
for a few days, a white covering will form on the carrots. This is the
chlorine which resurfaces. At what cost do we put our health at risk to
have esthetically ple
asing vegetables?

Chlorine is a very well-known carcinogen, which causes Cancer.. I
thought this was worth passing on. Pass it on to as many people as
possible in hopes of informing them where these carrots come from and
how they are processed.

I used to buy those baby carrots for vegetable dips.
I know that I will never buy them again!!!!

The white coating is not the chlorine surfacing. It's the skin dehydrating. But read the whole snopes things. Yes they are bathed in chlorine, but they are rinsed as well.

I'm going to die someday so give me purdy carrots in the mean time....

+1...besides Its SNOPES. The title has Rumor has it on it and at the bottom it says urban legends.... I don't think this is a quality source for info. Besides People are living longer than ever, but all you ever hear about is how the FDA or so and so approves stuff for use that will kill you..(like the mercury in shots)

You don't think SNOPES is a quality source for info because you see "Rumor" and "Urban Legends" in titles? Rumor and Urban Legend is what they are there to dispell. Plus if you actually read their reports they cite their information with the source. That is better than what you find from the Fox News Talking heads. Not saying they are always correct but at least they try to quantify where they verified they information they are presenting.

Nope...just like i take everything from WIKI with a grain of salt on some stuff. A site that deals in Rumors and Urban legends is not on the top of my list of trustworthy news sources. Besides...Chlorine is in your drinking water anyways.. Why wasn't that mentioned in the article? As far as Fox news...or Any news for that matter it is all biased to some degree. Except Colbert

Soak in a little pool water do we?

I might dive in every now and then and forget to close my mouth

Another rumor, and I haven't check on it to see if it's valid...but I hear Chlorine can cause Neumonia. I open a 5 gallon bucket of chlorine tablets and WOW~!~ Knock ya out.

Just poking here, but you don't drink water tap water do you?

all municipal water supplys use chlorine to kill bacteria in the lines. At least in the state of Texas. But once exposed to open air it evaporates quickley. Maybe there should be a warning( do not suck carrots directly out of bag).
