Classified Documents

I think the whole documents thing is blown way out of proportion in both Trump and Biden's case. Lord knows how many documents pass by their desks. In today's digital world it's dumb. Just something for the media to get all excited about.

Hi. I just want to know when will they lock up Trump over this?

Lock them all up..

What I don't get is when they searched and found these documents at Trump's residence other people didn't tell their staff to get out there and check to make sure there aren't any of these documents at their own places....

Stupid is what stupid does I guess....

They HAVE to find a reason to keep Trump from running again. No charges will be filed against him for Jan 6.

The left is running out of ammo against him.

Over the documents, not bloody likely. Conspiring to overthrow elections results and helping incite a riot? Perhaps.
Hi. We see the same things but see them differently. What they did was wrong but not a riot to me. As for the election I hope it was fair. If it was not fair it is our job to overthrow it. Who said to start new you have to burn it down? Who said to get in there faces if you do not agree with them?

Maybe things have changed. In fact I'm sure they have. But in my day, and it didn't matter who you were, a controlled document had so much protocol. Classified Confidential was like checking out a library book that you never left the library with.

In my case we had a network of interconnected buildings that formed a complex. Controlled access points into and out of the complex. As long as you never left the complex the docs were considered secured. If you left the complex with them you had to sign with a witness anything below TS. And they NEVER not asked for them back.

You could move about with them but you can't take them out of the controlled area without signatures and audits.

On the occasion I had to move around with S or TS, there is no way in hell I could have ever left them somewhere unsecured. You pretty much always had someone monitoring the documents.

Now we can apparently send digital copies across airspace to unsecured servers (ie Hillary) and take them home and never have anyone calling to say Hey you checked out this document and haven't returned it.

Just one more failure of our previously successful institution.

To be more direct to your answer Bee. They could have told Unca Joe to go check. And he wouldn't remembered 22 pages of the probably 22,000 he has. Classified becomes routine. Who else is going to know where be puts his chyt at his house?

While this is a yes and no answer, I'll do the yes answer.

The president can de-classify a document but it's not that simple. You don't just chant the words and it's done. It goes through about 6 chains of audits that have to sign off in the process. Each document has to be recalled, accounted for, reclassified and returned to the repository. You can't declassify it because you want to take it home and make it part of your library. There would be a whole list of people that would know which document has been declassified.

I don't know because it never came up, but I would assume a VCIC would be able to declassify if the CIC signed off on it. Like the Sec of Defense probably has the authority to declassify without asking the boss.
