Cleaning from the inside

I read an old post stating to clean the inside of your pipes/cans to run 5 gallons of C-16 or C-12 race fuel through it to burn off carbon build ups. I guess the same way you fire up a grill to red hot to burn off carbon buildup?

Any truth to this? Any possible damage doing this?

Never heard of that one. If you reach proper operating temps, wont that keep it clean?
