here's one...my 05 LE with 22k mi has a tapping/knocking/clicking noise at 3500rpm when im goin through the gears (i usually shift about 4ish, never raced, havent been warp speed either) 1st, 2nd and 3rd, dunno about anything else cuz of wind noise, but i hear a tapping or knocking..kinda like the chain popping, but its not the chain i KNOW because its way too slow and like i said its in each gear at the same rpm. plus its about 4 knocks/taps about a half a second apart. a friend suggested possibly the cam chain tensioner, which was the problem with his honda when he had the same noise but much faster of course because of it being so much higher revving. i keep my chain tight every oil change and lube it every 500mi or so..but it wont do it in N. seems to wanna do it eassier or maybe a little louder taking a turn..or maybe that ones my imagination..i dunno.. disregard that if it throws your thought process for a loop...but yeah....HELP!!

...its still doin it. actually went away and came back a few hundred miles later. one morning on my way back home from work it did it and i blipped the throttle a litlte to see if it would slip or somethin...nothin, just a good solid jump with no nasty sounds...nobody's got any ideas? ...im up for any thoughts..except engine side of the transmission, other than that, im willing to listen haha!

I would check the chain for tight link's if it does it like you mentioned.Double check the adjustment, front sprocket also. Is it the oem chain? 22k is a few mile's. Look at the sprocket teeth to make sure they are in good shape. If you have a few link's in the chain that are streached more than the other's it will climb the sprocket's and make noise or a surging feeling also.

When looking at the rear sprocket dead on (left side of bike) pull chain away from the sprocket at 3 o'clock position. If it moves away from the sprocket, chain is junk.

the chain has been kept within limits. stock equip. looking up oem replacement chain/sprocket kits, 20,000 mi warranty. i found the shop manual and dl'd it a little while back and had been meaning to look up chain wear limits. rear sprocket looks great. very little wear. its all hwy miles. but anyway. i measured the chain...this is gonna be funny to yall, cuz it is to me since there's no harm done. limit is 21 pins being 12.57"...she measured in around the 12 3/4" neighborhood, without pulling it completely tight like the manual said! ha! so im changing the whole she-bang. if the new 20k mi warranted chain goes bad before 20k, new kit! im almost certain thats the prob...we'll see in about another week when i get the parts in.

this noise is coming out of my ram air duct. i replaced the old airbox with a new one. oem and now it makes the clicking sound
