Clutch Engagement Issues

I've had this problem with the 06 Busa since I picked it up in July 2010. It had 6651 miles..It would not engage until lever was 90% let out. And I bled the system, sucked out all the old and replaced with new dot4 and bled it thru 3+ times. Still no difference. Tried to power bleed it at 9500 miles and still no difference.. I am to the point of tearing into the clutch and replacing the discs with new but am leary about spending that amount of cash and have this not work.. anyone have any ideas? please email me at oneclassic_70@yahoo.com as I am not here here very often. thanks

.. well i was gonna say something on here about the caseing around the sprocket but since he isnt on here i guess he wont see it:rulez: sigh wish he would be more active on here since he had the time to make the post

Replace the stack - OEM is best from group consensus.

the clutch isnt slipping so that chance that its the disks is very slim.. it could be many things seeing how he is saying that the clutch will not release untill the lever is 90% out.. could be just a simple adjust the lever or even could be the clutch disks was replaced with the wrong stack that are to thick... but he didnt say its doing anything wrong only a comfort complaint... but seeing how he probably wont come back to answer any more of our questions its gonna be hard to fix his issue

BINGO! Stack height . . .

well for the rest of us who actually participate on this site... I have never messed with the cluch so what's the stack height?

If you take the entire clutch out of the basket and lay it on a flat table - your frictions and steels - the stack height is the height of the clutch pack itself. If you have the proper number of frictions and steels and the right parts - the clutch height will be correct. For instance, there are 9 steels, 7 thin and 2 thick. There are 8 thin frictions and two thick ones. Check the service manual for your particular year . . . if you put the right plates in, you should not have a problem.:rulez:

Clutch stack height is 2" on a Busa for the Gen 1 and the Gen 2. Although the friction plates are different thickness, so are the steels, and that is where you can make your adjustment if necessary. Running all thick steels, for example, or all thins or a combination of the above. The stock set up for a Gen 1 according to the manual is 7 thin steels and 2 thick ones. If you had a problem, that would be your starting point, although whatever combination you end up with is dictated in the end by the attainment of the correct stack height.:rulez:

but since this guy probably isnt gonna be coming back to this site ive only answered his question for others that might have the same issues

And why would I not come back to see? I do have an email. Think anyone could've sent an email to say so...Comfort wise.. I feel it should be engaging alot earlier than 90% out..Clue me in if I am wrong... FYI, its a stock set up, nothing's been changed. Previous owner was a 63 yr old dude.. If I had known more and had more info I would've included it. UPDATE.. Had a shop check the clutch plates and are all good.. He did state they were DRY and he placed them in the oil prior to putting back in the way he took them out.. Oil level was in between level marks and was put to the full line after putting back together. Since I did not check back, I did not know of the stack comment. So thats my bad. BTW, I had even asked the local suzuki dealership and they told me it was normal..
So.. my initial question comes down to possible stack heigth... now my next question would be is why would it be dry? I appreciate the help. And givin time, will be here more often as to avoid the comments that were made.. thanks for your time and your knowledge.. :beerchug:

done tried that first off.. then bled the system in August shortly after buying the bike. Did the brake master cylinder too..all fresh fluids.. I just power bled the clutch again prior to inspecting the discs.. might have to take discs out again to check stack heigth as was mentioned earlier. sooner or later will get this resolved.. am waiting on some of those cheap imitation CRG levers from the china man to see if they make any difference.. Am I wrong to not expect the lever to engage at mid way or 50% area? This isnt my first bike and all my others, they all were at the right spot.. tried adding my pics but all were too large to post.. only one i saw was my 929 and I on a curve on Hwy 25 in Hollister, Ca. then again my pc is sucking too.!

Another update.. local kawi dealer has an 07 so I stopped to see if it has same issue.. nope.. it engages within 1/2" of being let out.. still need to get time to do stack heigth on it. If thats not it then I can only think its within the slave cylinder area.. will keep in touch as i can.. freakin computer issues dont help posting..???

Tried the adjustable shorty levers from HONG KONG at $40 set and you know.. they fit great and look great.. look like the asv or pazzo's and at the price .. It helped my clutch issue.. it now is engaging a lot better.. go figure.. But it did take a month for them to get here.. ordered on 2-11 and they came in on 3-17.. for $40 its worth it.. better than the $140 - 180 range they are..
