Clutch lever question

First off, hi guys. It has been awhile. The tip of my lever broke off. I bought a new one and it is a simple install. However, the new one didn't come with a brass piece. Small cylinder shape. The one from the original lever slipped right out. However, it doesn't want to slide back in the new lever. Do I need a press to force it in? Ideas?

from what i remember it should slide back in,maybe something got slightly bent when it broke.will in slide in w/o the new lever in place?
