CLUTCH PIN SEAL LEAKING

A BUDDY OF MINE HAS A 04 LIMITED AND BUSTED THE CHAIN. WHICH BROKE OFF THE CLUTCH PUSH PIN FLUSH WITH THE SEAL. HE SPENT A FEW DAYS TRYING TO DIG OUT THE BROKEN PIN AND IN THE MEANTIME DAMAGED THE SEAL. HE HAS IT ALL BACK TOGETHER NOW AND IT POURS OIL OUT AROUND THE CLUTCH PIN. WELL, HE ORDERED A NEW SEAL AND LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE CASES HAVE TO BE SPLIT TO INSTALL IT. HE IS BY NO MEANS A MECHANIC OR AM I, JUST LOOKING FOR ANY INFO TO HELP HIM OUT OTHER THAN TAKING IT TO A SHOP, HE CAN'T AFFORD THAT HE SAYS..

I suggested he cut the darn seal down on the outside and clean the old one with some acetone use a little high temp silacone and slide it over the pin from the outside and only use enough to seal the outer seal to inner not interfering with the lip of new seal .. But last I heard someone used permatex sealant on the thing which now who knows if it would have worked, if its all gommed up now.But I would have tried that before I split the cases...

Hard to believe that no one has had this problem and has a idea besides mine on a fix for 10 buck seal and way too much labor ,Suzuki screwed us on that seal should be acessable from outside the case.

YOUR RIGHT!!! I HOPE I DON'T BUST A CHAIN AND CAUSE THIS PROBLEM.. TOO MUCH BULLCRAP OVER A CHEAP SEAL............

The seal holds oil pressure, it would eventually push the cutdown seal out and still leak. I have a fix for this problem, but it only works if you have a billet sprocket cover with the case protectors.

Well we are all ears ,the bilet sproket cover is still better than splitting the case...Can you elaborate a little on this F'd up seal from Suzuki a little bit,I for one would greatly appreciate it.

Well it is basically a billet piece with a seal in it, with an o-ring and it gets held in place with the billet sprocket cover and reseal the cases without splitting. I came up with the idea and the design one night while getting a bike ready for a race the next day. I had a leaker here and thought about what would fix the problem for a long time but would save me from splitting the cases. I sell these for $100.

Richard

Thanks for the infro on this I will find out what he wants to do and will probably be getting back to you ...Sound like you got the setup great job ,maybe you could give Suzuki some help with the F'ing up dept. and get that bullshit eliminated from the future.

I came across that same problem myself with a broken push rod.
I saw what was involved if I dug around to remove the rod and wrecked the seal.
So my solution came out of the top drawer in my tool chest.
I used a telescoping magnet.
It was the snap-on brand and worked like a charm removing the broken pin.
I know it is to late for your project, but hopefully it saves someone down the road with the same problem.

He also needs to be using the billet sprocket cover, my piece works in conjunction with it, and won't work without it. I can get the billet cover as well , but I would have to check the price. The billet cover has a chain guide/case protector built in, so if he ever has another broken chain, he won't bust other stuff up.

Richard

OK, WELL LET ME KNOW THE TOTAL PRICE AND I WILL SEE IF HE WANTS IT. SOUNDS LIKE IT IS HIS ONLY CHOICE......

I talked to him today and they tried my fix and it worked ,the cut down seal put in on the outside, change it as needed its a easy fix.
