The ticking and all kinds of other sounds as well...sometimes it sounds like a diesel truck till she warms up...Thats just the way they are and I would'ent worry...mines done it since day one and still does.

ozz thanks that`s what i was thinking also. just thought i would check.
cool:D

Mine Does exactly the same thing.... you'll find if you listen for the ticking noise on the right-hand side of the top end of the motor.... that's where it's coming from...

It's to do with the cam chain tensioner.... most if not all busas have this noise when cold....

I really wouldn't worry about that... mine has done this from the frist mile.. I noticed it the frist day. so I brought it back. Maybe a week later They made some adjustments. It was fine for maybe a week..... then the noise came back again when cold.....

I have done a little homework on this and the only way to rid yourself of that noise If it really bothers you is to go with a manual tensioner..

There have been several threads about this. I noticed it on mine, and that it disappears when warm. When starting I let it run for 2-3 minutes to let plenty of oil get to the top end, and then keep it at or below 3K rpm for the first 5 miles. In other words, I never open it up until the engine is good and warm.

At 2K miles I switched to Amsoil synthetic bike oil, 10W40. Noise still there but bike ran/shifted a little smoother. Just did my hot weather oil change and used Maxima 4 Extra 15W50, an ester based synthetic. A huge improvement over the Amsoil. Rattle/ticking on start up greatly reduced/ disappeared.

Try an ester based synthetic after you've got her broken in

Mine has done the same thing from day I noticed that when i changedmy oil from Castrol Syn to Mobil 1 gold cap the noise had decreased significantly...just my .02
btw i have 17,000+ miles on my 03 and no problems so far...
