Cold Startup noises

I believe you're using too high a viscosity for the 'Busa, so it takes a bit longer for the oil to circulate. You might want to go back to 10/40.

Damn...started my bike today without a helmet on and it does make that disconcerting sound at first startup. As you guys say, must be the norm.

mine made this noise too. Johnnycheese suggested I check the idle speed. It should be 1150 rpm. Mine was low and when I set the idle up it stopped. He said it was something to do with the clutch.

Same here, I use 10/40 and makes same sound until warm.
Have 1700 miles, everytime I use to start it I would run over and check the oil level wondering if the oil must have leaked out somehow????
Now I just stand back and prey...Is this normal.

Mine too, ever since about 50 miles from new (now 9500)
If its hot, and you give it a fistfull in any gear from about 1500rpms makes the same noise too, untill the airbox drowns it out at about 4k!

Going to do oil change again this week (Mobil 1 10W-40)

Its got to be the Cam chain and valve train area. Want to get manual adjuster I think

Sort the problem once and for all

Johnny Cheese?? what do you think??

Noisy Nuts

Note: Never noticed these sounds from 0->590 miles... only since I've changed the oil to Bel-Ray 20-50. (Currently at 1450 miles.)

When the bike is cold and started, it will make a disturbing clunking noise once in awhile until it's warmed up. It sounds like it's down deep in the motor... ???
Also, once in awhile, I'll get a "whirling" sound when cold.

Both of the above noises are completely gone once the temp is at the 40% mark.

Anyone else get some interesting sounds when the motor is cold?

All engines make more noise cold. When metal is cold there is more clearance, when it heats up there is less clearance thus less valvetrain noise, etc...

when you 1st start the bike you need to keep the rpm over 2000 . warm
up should always be 2 min or less better to drive away and put small load on engine. don;t rev the motor to high until the oil gauge comes up to normal.

"don;t rev the motor to high until the oil gauge comes up to normal. "

Busa Won
Where did you buy your bike from??
All the Hayabusa's I know haven't got an oil gague?????

Do you mean temperature gague??

Manual states, 30 sec on the fast idle between 2k and 2.5k rpm, then back to normal idling

Nuts ;)

I mean temp gauge, better not to let the bike idle too long this way the oil will build up less acids. Better run 10/ 40w oil since start up is where most of the ware is done. just my 3 cents
