At some of my local tracks (Auto Club Speedway in Fontana-WERA West events and Willow Springs-WSMC) you have to attent a NRS; New Racer School. It's typically one day long, they teach you everything about racing, rules, safety, and evaluate your laptimes and lines by following you. Willow Springs Big Track, for example, you must be able to turn laps under 2 minutes (which I can do in reverse gear LOL) but have smooth, consistent, and predictable lines.
Also, they tech your bike to make sure your within the Rulebook specs. Every club has strict rules. I suggest you find out what organization runs at your local track and prep your bike accordingly. Most likely, you'll have to safety wire: axle pinch bolts, axle nut, brake caliper bolts, fork pinch bolts, brake line banjo bolts, oil drain plug, clamp + safety wire oil filter, safety wire all clamps containing water and oil lines, add crash resistant case covers if you're on a late model Suzuki, remove all headlights, tail lights, signals, mirrors, etc, water and waterwetter the radiator....just to name the basic few. Then it also depends on what class you run.
For example, WSMC superstock, you cannot use double bubble windscreens or you'll be DQ'd. It must be stock profile. Also, you cannot use slicks. only DOT or DOT-Race compounds. Some orgs will allow up to a 1 mm overbore of the cylinders. Some will DQ you. It depends all on your local clubrace rulebook.
