Cooling question

Hi there,

I know this similar problem was discussed......I just want to make sure. My bike (in traffic) gets really hot sitting at lights and such. The temp gauge will climb past half and go to 3/4 before the fan turns on. The fan seems to keep the bike from going into the red. Is this a normal thing for busa's? Thanks.

Fan should turn on at the half way point. If in warranty have it checked out, if not have the temp sensor that triggers it checked/replaced.

you can also replace the fan with one from Muzzy, I hear, search the threads, that is a buttt load more efficient than the stock plastic one.

replace the fan, if you don't have the time or money for that then just turn engine off at the longer lights

Sorry man.. BAD idea!! Like putting your bike in neutral at a light.. if you need to get the heck out of the way of a car that doesn't see you, or whatever, you are screwed! Don't turn your bike off unless you pull it off the road and get off, and don't put it in neutral while at the light... be prepared to move as quickly as possible.

I always wait until there are atleast 2 vehicles behind me before I do either of those, but I can see your point

1298 cc's wrapped in plastic is enuf to heat up the frame if not burn through the plastice. This bike was difinitely meant and needs to be run. I usually wait till the car has stopped behind me before i kick it into N. Try engine Ice to keep the engine temp down... Its a radiator fluid and you can get it at your local bike shop.

Chances are there are no problems other than there's no air moving through the radiaor so the thing heats up

I have heard some good things about Engine Ice, myself~ I was thinking about using it when doing my next service~ I understand it does a great job of keeping the bike at even cooler temps~ Here in FL, 'specialy in the summer months, that's a big plus!
Has anyone ever heard anything negative about the stuff? Maybe have any other suggestions for engine coolant? I've also heard it's best to mix with distilled water(?)~ Any comments are much appreciated...

I put a Muzzy fan on and it is very easy to do. I also put a bypass switch on the top of my inner fairings to activate my fan manually. So, when I pull up to a long light, I turn it on and it never gets hot. There has been several posts on how to do these but, if you need any help, PM me. I check my messages at night and will answer.

Unless you are in traffic and no place to go anywa. then turn it off.

Best thing though is check your fluid. Does not sound that it is all the way full. I ahd that problem when the bike was new. Like it was mentioned fan should come on at just a touch above the 1/2 mark. If it does not chage the thermostate
