Corbin Seat Question.

Yes and no. I have one on a Gen 1 and like it.
Then tried one on the Gen 2. Did not like it.
Tried a Tobin - like it a lot.
Probably stay with Tobin from now on.

I have a Corbin and a Gel for my Gen 1. I use the Gel most of the time. But the wife likes the Corbin. Go Figure! My Butt is more sensitive I guess.:moon:

To sum up a VERY long story...I bought and instantly paid for a Corbin...waited 4 months for it show - after I was told 4-6 weeks. Everytime I called - if they answer - "it's shipping out tomorrow!"...next call - "its shipping out right now".

It came with a seam (like the one down the outsde of bluejeans - and it was not straight) in the center with the threads on the outmost surface where they see the most rubbing. The pics on their site show a solid piece of material so I called. Guy told me I was wrong about there not being a seam - made him get his supervisor...argued with him - he said "WROOOOOONG! Those seats come with a seam!" (Yelled at me on the phone) I asked him to pull their website...they agreed to replace the coverstock - at their expense. Waited 2 weeks...calling...never got a return authorization. Sent it on my own - $20. Kept it 7 weeks...came back wiiiiiiiiiith??? A different seam - like the type on a t-shirt sleeve! Same seat material...they just cut the out seam and restitched the same coverstock with a different seam and it still wasnt straight. Also, the rubber bumper that the seat rests on was broken off - in the bottom of the box with a sticker on it that said "Inspected OK". Sent it back again...kept it 9 weeks this time.

Did I mention the seat itself??? NO - not yet. The angle of the seat generated the equivalent senario of clamping on a set of vice grips (location obvious here) and sitting on it. Aweful! The angle of the seat was WAY too drastic and kept me jammed up into the tank. My legs were killing me after 20 minutes just trying to push off on the pegs to get off the tank. Also, the seat foam had ripples under it that showed through the cover and that I kept asking them to fix...each time it came back with more problems than it left with.

The last time it came back, the angle was different and is tolerable...the seat was recovered with one piece of material, but the seams are still not straight. The seat pan covering had several damaged "prick points" in the parts that are supposed to be smooth so they're really noticable. Also, and the best part yet - the last time it came back, it wouldn't bolt down. Somehow, they had the mounting brackets so far out of position that you couldn't even see the holes when looking to see which way it needed to "slide" to get the bolts started. I had to remake the mounting brackets myself.

At this point, I dare not send it back to them again. Am I happy with it...no. Did they try to help me work through it...no. Can you get a refund if they jerk you around...no. I do not feel like I'm expecting too much - from a company that only makes seats...you would think they would know...how to make seats. Suzuki is not is not business to make seats, but compare the craftsmanship of the stock seat, to a $300 Corbin...Corbin is crap. If given the chance to work in their shop, I could've done better - and I don't make seats.

After it's all said and done, I bought the seat...and almost 10 months later, I was riding on it...and still not satisfied.

I will NEVER buy from them again.:banghead:

Here's a thread I started way back when - My Corbin Experience

I know some people love them...that's why I bought from them in the first place - from reading threads on the Board. Although I'm sure everyone does not have problems like mine...there is no excuse for what they did. If you buy from them...just hope you don't have to deal with their customer service.

Since the cold is coming, you could send your seat and try Tobin or buy outright with Seargent.

I'll put up some pics sometime....

Guess I didn't sum up a long story very well :)

I have Corbin front/rear saddles on my Gen1 and love it.. passengers always like the pillion but IMO, it is a bit detached.. Meaning, your passenger has a tough time under braking staying put.. although super comfy, having a passenger pushing hard on you every time you brake stinks as the pressure is in the shoulders not the mid section or waist area where you could hold with your legs.. The backrest is also super nice..

I wont ride long days without the corbin.. never had or tried a tobin..

I run a Corbin front seat and really like it. I did mod the front bracket to a more level position so I wouldn't slide to the tank, other than than I use profride to keep it clean and pliable. You have to like a hard seat to like a Corbin. For distance riding I like the looks and feel of the Corbin. When I had BMW's I always went with Russell Day Long. Wardie

I love my Corbin on the Busa, and I love my Corbin on the XX, and I loved my Corbin's on my bikes before those :)

I tried 2 different Corbins and they were nice looking, fit & finish were very good. But too firm for me. ( actually hurt my back on long rides ) Guess I didnt have a big enough bum for it. :moon:

No complaints from mine yet.
