Correct  RPM's

I usually cruise along at 4500 rpm - 5500 rpms in any given gear

I accelerate above that of course on corners and passing etc

just curious if my cruising revs should be higher say 5500 - 6500 as redline is 11000 rpm

any info would be great

Sounds like a good rpm to be at so you can get on the throttle right away but if you're just riding easy you could go up a couple to let the r's down a bit and get better mileage. I think I ride in a lower gear than I could a lot but.....Hardly ever see 6th gear?

That is totally unnecessary, 'busas aren't 600s.

Without a reason to keep the revs up, as you say, "just cruising", I'm looking for the next gear if I'm at 4000 rpm.

My usual 'cruising' speed is 95mph in 6th and the tach reads 5,000. Feels ok to me. There is no 'should' cruising speed as long as your revs don't fall too low. Don't want to lug it. If my revs fall below 3,000 I downshift.

I ride the same way in town. When the rpms get to around 4k-4.5K I am looking to grab the next gear. It's nice getting 200+ miles between fills.

I agree...thats exactly what I do...the engine is sort of rough below 3000(not smooth?)but above 4 is very smooth...this is with a pipe, map, and PC3usb...oh, stock gearing....@ 5000 its right at about 95 and is very smooth

Not to change the subject...but Im overcoming a really goofy problem....SHORT SHIFTING!!!!!!!....This is my first big bike...had 750's years ago...and the Busa comes on like a freight train and I find myself shifting thinking Im near redline when in fact I barely touch 8000rpm....I know thats goofy but I just have to learn that this bike is a beast and not a 1986 GSXR 750....just need to learn to let 'er eat

yeah so that was my concern... didn't want to lug it so thought it better to rev a little higher... I actually like the feel now between 5000 and 6000 rpm still get good mileage too

hmm now you guys are saying around 4000

Well, sheesh, obviously if you are already in top gear and you want to go 95 mph, then that is the rpm you are stuck with.

At those speeds, I wouldn't want to be below 5K rpm anyway, you are pushing a lot of air and need more torque to accelerate from those speeds.

I normally cruise around town at about 60mph in 6th gear which is about 3200 - 3500 rpm. I can get about 50mpg riding like this.

See when i am cruising just like most in a lower rpm. In first or second just creeping along for some reason my bike likes to chug. Have to keep it above 2k or so to keep it from chuggin. Needless to say, not sure why it does that. So i tend to keep the r's a little higher.

hmm I think thats way to low, you might as well have a cruiser...redlines 11000 not 8000
Nope - I enjoy a good, slow ride at times. There's no need to always stress the engine under the power it can make. Sometimes you have to love and caress the busa.

Can the Busa handle the power? Of course, but there's no reason to make her old before her time. I abuse my bike enough at the track.

guys its a sport / tourer not a sport / cruiser

M y feeling still is a big motor like that was designed to rev a little bit

lugging it at 2000 - 3000 rpms IMO will put undo stress on the motor

I am not say ing rev it up in the 8's or 9's but a cool 5000 - 6000 is where it doesnt lug around and runs the smoothest for me

good to hear other opinions though
