Cowling Ease

What do you all think of putting some lube on the grommets for the cowling, maybe patroleum jelly or axel grease. I don't know about everyone else but mine sure seem to be a bugger to get on and off and the plastic tabs that go into the grommets do not seem very substantial and could easily break.

I have heard that recomended, sounds alright and some guys have had some great sucess with that technique

I use silicon spray, if you can see the grommet before you pull it apart spray a small amount on it. I would not use petroleum based grease on rubber.

When I took the left side off it was very difficult and I noticed that the rubber grommet had been installed incorrectly, half of it was shoved down into the metal retaining ring which may have contributed tothe difficulty in removing it. Maybe I'll use some of my wifes love oils that would be slick!

I had more trouble getting all the little tabs things undone along the front edge (where it tucks into the nose piece)? What's your secret on undoing & doing that part of the fairing?

Mine were the same way on both sides. Made me think it was intentional.
