I have just examined my rear sub-frame, the one that supports the pillion, and noticed that the weld has cracked at the upper LH join to the perimeter frame. This joint can be found under the riders seat.
It looks as though it was a poor weld to begin with, and no before you all ask, my girlfriend only weighs 48kg, LOL.
Just something for all of you to check and see if you have suffered the same problem.
