Crash test video

Gives me the chills.

Also, it makes me ask, "What does gear really protect you from?"

The "victims" in those accidents all appear to have suffered from fatal injuries. Maybe I'm just over dramatizing it in my mind.

My jacket isn't going to protect me from a broken arm or leg. The gear is only going to protect me from a slide down the pavement.

Am I wrong? Not to say not to wear the gear. I'm all for it. But I also don't want to be guilty of expecting more from it than it has to offer.

Saw a Goldwing at the bike show a couple of weeks ago which was/is equipped with an airbag. Should be good for a front impact accident!

best gear wont protect you from every thing like you said but it will keep your skin where it belongs....i'm sure you've burned your finger or something before...just imagin that down your whole leg or arm...i've been burned....i'll take a broken bone over zero skin road rash and a broken bone!

Just remember that more people die from auto wrecks and they're protected by a cage of steel!!

You feel any better Wag

I saw an airbag on the goldwing at the bike show. I wonder how well it works.

That video does make you think that if you ride a bike and hit a car, you will get seriously hurt. Either way just imagining that a real person was there instead of doll really does make you think. I am still an advocate for riding with gear because it does protect from some damage.

That video is pretty straight forward, its says " dont crash in to things".

Not per capita. And no.

Actually, never felt bad to begin with. I'm still wearing my gear. As was stated, I'll take broken body parts over road rash any day!

It's always been about riding defensively; sure there is no fail proof way to keep from being hit by a cage but the right gear, proper use of time and space and staying alert go a long way to insure a lot of us will live to be a ripe old age

BMW is going to make the airbag standard soon on there bikes, saw there test bike hit a car at 35mph and the bag took almost all the impact for the rider. They said the rider would have walked away! Something in the near future.
I'm still with WAG gear, gear and more gear.

An airbag will work great! If you stay on the bike, nothing hits you from the side, your bike stays 90 deg from the object your impacting with, and you don't have anything on your bike that can slide forward and hit you (i.e. passengers or other things).

The only thing that bothers me about all these videos is that they don't take into account rider's actions.

If I was the crash-test dummy, I would be on the brakes really hard. That would affect what the motorcycle does, including the possibility of tossing the rider up and over the car.

Which is what happened to my brother when the lady pulled out in front of him.

I think I saw a video of that air bag. It worked really well when it came to keeping the rider from flying over the bars and into a car.
