Cutting out/dying

Phatroy

Never Forgotten
I have a 2000 Busa. Last week I got cut off in traffic and had to make an all out emergency stop. I came to rest on a small up hill grade and the bike fell over on it's left side. I picked it up and after the Fuel Injection light went off I started it up. A couple of days later the bike started sputtering and died completely. It always starts back. It has done this 3 times over the last 3 weeks. I took it to the shop and they tried to tell me the gas gage was off and I was out of gas. (Thats bunk!) It has happened on a half of tank and full tank. It runs great between incidents, but is its annoying that I can't find the problem. HELP!!!! Any ideas?

what side did it fall on? Cause it might of pinched a fuel tank vent line. The motor will run for a while until the vacumn in the tank builds up and it won't allow the fuel pump to draw fuel, thus killing the motor. The engine will start again no problem after the tank has vented.
Check all the lines from the tank and see it they are all in tact and not pinched or bent up.
And while you're at it check that all the electrical connections are tight, from a tip over you can break the contact to the battery interrupting the circuit.
Just an idea to save you some money at the shop. If you need more help let me know.
Good luck

Mine does the same thing. Started at only 400 miles on the clock, and has done it several times. As busachick noted, a vent hose was crimped, but even after that was fixed it did it. Just got it back from the shop on Saturday. They couldn't duplicate so Suzuki okayed replacing the signal generator and sidestand switch. I'm just going to wait and see how it goes. Intrigued by the TOS possibility though.

where are these tilt sensors located?
is it in the manual?

*drool* busachick... wish i knew a chick with a bike that knew technical stuff.. *drool*

Im pretty sure its in the manual. Im not too sure on exactly where it is cause I never had to mess with it. also there is a recall on all year Busas for the starter clutch. I think I read that one at SH.org if im not mistaken. I called the dealership over here and they confirmed.

My bike was cutting out all the time while cruising, shop could not figure it out what was wrong. After like the sixth time of putting it in the shop, the bike leaving me stranded and threatening Suzuki with the Lemon Law Clause they figured out it was the fuel pump could not keep enough fuel pressure to properly operate the fuel system. They changed it about 15,000 miles ago no problems. I went through the same thing though, they could not duplicate it nothing is wrong with the bike, finally it did it and I was right by the Dealer had the mechanic take it for a ride then all of a sudden they believed me.They started by replacing all of the fuel lines, then cleaned the fuel injectors, once that was done went to the fuel pump. I just looked at my reciepts it was six visits to the dealer in 15 months.

I was just talking with some guys who work at my bike dealer and they said it can just be the gas your using!
So what do you use?
Does it have alot of methanol in it?
Cause if it does it will errode the rubber in the fuel lines and little pieces of rubber can clog the injectors, which will stall the motor and make it run like crap. He says it's a common problem for Suzuki's and Honda's.
He said to run your bike with a lower methanol base for 2-3 weeks straight to see if that will change things. And if you can, to change the fuel lines b4 switching gas.
Hope this helps!!

Busachick-I use Chevron 87. Nothing special. It cut out again 3 weeks ago. I took all the body work off and checked all the lines/wires etc. Everything looks good. It hasn't done it recently (past 4 wks doing 114 miles/day to/from work). Maybe it's worked it's self out. HOPEFULLY!!!!!! Thanks for all the suggestions.

SHOOT!!!! Problems back. I don't know what to do. I finally just dropped it off at the dealer. I have a extended service warranty. I told them not to call me until they fix it. I haven't gotten a call yet. (Only been 2 days). Cross your fingers for me. I'll be having rider withdrawls soon if they don't fix it.

Mine no longer has the problem - dealer replaced the ignition coils and sidestand switch. Don't know which was the problem, but it no longer cuts out.

Problem found. Turns out there are 3 filters in the fuel pump.
The first was clogged. The second (paper filter), was torn apart and was clogging the third filter. Three filters/labor and she'll be back on the road. Thanks for all the response to my problem. I didn't have a clue to what was wrong.

Good advise. I'm going to do that. The three filters
are located in the fuel pump. The shop said they go
information form Suzuki that they originally had a problem on the 99's. They changed the middle filter (paper) and told all
shops to keep watch out and treat the filters under regular
maintance. I never hear of anything until I had the problems.
Mine starter at 48,000 miles. Be on the look out.

So all of the filters are in the fuel pump?
