Hey fellas I was reading a couple of post where u all talked about a lot of rip offs........mainly cycle trader. I saw the site a few weeks ago and saw some really "good deals". I was thinkiny when I am going home maybe I would buy about 3 bikes (because of the low prices) to sell when I get home. But now after seeing this I have changed my mind. Is there a sure fire way to figure out a way if the deal is a real one......and I dont mean the prices. Like I see u all asking for the vin number.

Lastly whats the usually going price for a busa 99?

Thanks for the help.

Out here in AZ you can get no help from the authorities with the VIN. Before I bought a Kat that was suspishously (Boy I really can't spell!) priced, I went to the DMV, Police, and NM police with the # and was told they couldn't help me. Just had to take my chances and I would be told if the bike was hot when I tried to register it. It had a title so I gave it a shot & came out lucky.

One really good suggestion was to request a photo of the bike with a current newspaper or something with a current date on it from where the seller lives...... Ask for a phone number and name, this information should be verifiable by cross referencing against a current phone book, including address (if it ain't there or doesn't match.... U do the math!) Next run the VIN number through a back ground check. There are alot of services on the internet that will perform this service for a flat fee (generally around $20 for one months access....) Finally "IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE! IT MOST LIKELY IS........)

One of the other things you could do it ask to put the money in an ESCROW account until the bike has been picked up. That way you know the bike actually exist before they recieve the money. Which will give you time to check the VIN# and get it registered. Just my $.02

thanks alot for that one dezzy..of course i dont know what an escrow acc is but I will find out....thanks

I got my busie from cycle trader add but it was from a dealer in Del Rey Fla. I called better biz beureau and dealer direct and negotiated first, then had bike shipped to Hawaii. It worked out good for me, plus if you buy from a dealer even a used bike you can place it on a credit card first and still have some leverage if things arent as promised.

Be careful too because rip off adds "say" they use an escrow account.

Good luck & hope u get what u want.

An escrow account is a service that holds onto the money for you before it gets released to the former owner of the bike. If you decide to do this... make sure YOU pick a LEGIT service. A common scam is to get money sent to a fake or shady escrow service.

AND NEVER WIRE MONEY OVERSEAS!!!
